Pride parade through Düren city centre
Christopher Street Day Düren is the Pride event in the predominantly rural city of Düren — located between Cologne and Aachen, at the transition between the Rhineland and the North Eifel. This year's event will take place on June 27, 2026, according to the csd-termine.de calendar. The CSD is organised by the initiative 'Die bunte Seite Dürens', which has been making queer engagement visible in the city for years.
As in previous years, the parade is expected to start at Düren Main Station at 2:00 PM and march through the city centre. Banners, rainbow flags, protest signs, and music trucks will make the CSD the most visible demonstration of the queer community in the region. Following the parade, there is usually a rally with speeches and a stage programme in a central square.
Christopher Street Day commemorates the Stonewall riots of 1969 in New York — the beginning of the modern LGBTQ movement. CSDs have been celebrated in Germany since the 1970s and are now a mix of political demonstration and celebration. In smaller cities like Düren, their significance is particularly high: creating visibility where public queer life is otherwise less represented.
The initiative 'Die bunte Seite Dürens' not only organises the CSD but is also committed to the queer community in the city year-round: regular meetups, educational work in schools, and counselling services. The initiative communicates its activities via its Instagram account @die_bunte_seite_duerens.
In parallel to its own CSD, the City of Düren will also participate in ColognePride on July 5, 2026 — an official delegation with city flags and representatives will travel to Cologne. This positions Düren as a queer-friendly city, both in its own event and in the broader Rhenish context.
With just under 92,000 inhabitants, Düren (a large district town in the Düren district, North Rhine-Westphalia) is a medium-sized city in the Rhenish lignite mining region. Located between Cologne, Aachen, and the Eifel, Düren is historically shaped by the paper and textile industries. The queer community in Düren is smaller than in the metropolises, making the CSD all the more important.
Düren is part of a dense network of smaller CSD events in NRW. Nearby events include: CSD Jülich (June 20), CSD Aachen (August 28), CSD Brühl (August 29), CSD Euskirchen (May 16), and of course ColognePride as a major regional event.
The CSD Düren 2026 continues the annual tradition: parade from the main station through the city centre, followed by a rally with speeches, a stage programme, and stalls from queer initiatives. Date 27/06 according to csd-termine.de.
