33 Years of Dialect Music in Düren
For over three decades, the Dürener Mundartfestival has been one of the most important venues for Rhenish dialect music outside of Cologne. Since the early 1990s, the organizing community AG Schnüss has annually brought the top acts of the Cologne dialect scene to a stage in Düren — a format that has become a fixture in the city's event calendar. The 33rd edition takes place on Saturday, August 29, 2026, starting at 6:00 PM in Willy-Brandt-Park, Düren's city park.
Kempes Feinest, Lupo, Rabaue, Klüngelköpp & Torben Klein
The lineup for the 33rd edition brings together five established stars of the Kölsch dialect scene: Kempes Feinest, the cover band led by frontman Tobias Kempes, is considered one of the most popular dialect bands in the region. Torben Klein, formerly the singer of Domstürmer and now performing with his own band, delivers classic Kölsch songs ranging from sing-along anthems to pop. Lupo and Rabaue represent the younger generation of Kölsch bands, blending dialect with indie rock and pop. The solid anchor is Klüngelköpp with their typical, rousing Kölsch rock — a mix that is sure to keep the audience moving in Willy-Brandt-Park until midnight.
Opening with PES QUENTES
Traditionally, the festival doesn't start with dialect music but with a rhythmic opening: The samba group PES QUENTES from the Rhineland kicks off the evening with Brazilian sounds — a deliberate contrast to the subsequent Kölsch program, which has been part of the festival's identity for years.
Open-Air in the City Park
Willy-Brandt-Park (also known as Düren City Park) is located south of the city center and offers a natural amphitheater atmosphere on its central open space — an ideal location for an open-air festival of this scale. In dry weather, the atmosphere is picnic-style: blankets, folding chairs, and brought-along food are permitted, complemented by food and drink stalls on the premises.
Düren in the Rhineland
Düren is the district capital of the Düren district in North Rhine-Westphalia, situated between Aachen and Cologne. With around 92,000 inhabitants, the city is the economic and cultural center of the Voreifel region. Geographically, Düren lies at the transition between Kölsch and Eifeler Platt — the dialect festival perfectly reflects this Rhenish linguistic culture, which oscillates between preserving local heritage and modern pop music.
