Three evenings of concerts at the Haus der Stadt Düren – Tribute to Miles Davis, New Orleans Trio, and Cuban Son
The Düren Jazz Weekend is the annual highlight of the Düren Jazz Initiative e.V. (Jazz We Can). From June 19 to 21, 2026, the association, in cooperation with Düren Kultur, will present three consecutive concert evenings at the Haus der Stadt Düren. Three very different programs span the sonic spectrum: from modern European jazz to the roots in New Orleans and Cuban Son.
The opening on Friday, June 19 at 8:00 PM in the bistro of the Haus der Stadt will feature Austrian trumpeter Bastian Stein and his quintet. The occasion: the 100th birthday of Miles Davis. Five musicians will interpret compositions from the jazz legend's work, with a special focus on the revolutionary second quintet of the 1960s (with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams). An evening full of improvisational joy and creative energy.
On Saturday, June 20 at 7:00 PM, the Brian Seeger Organic Trio will bring the sound of New Orleans to Düren. American guitarist Brian Seeger, a long-time teacher at the University of New Orleans, has formed a trio with two musicians from Luxembourg, reinterpreting classic soul-jazz with the sound of the Hammond organ. Groove over pose — an evening for lovers of handmade jazz.
The closing on Sunday, June 21 at 7:30 PM will feature Ecos de Siboney, a band composed of heirs and companions of the legendary Cuban singer Compay Segundo (Buena Vista Social Club). With classic Son Cubano instruments — Tres, Bongos, Maracas, Double Bass — the ensemble evokes the sound of 1950s Havana, made world-famous by the Buena Vista Social Club.
The Haus der Stadt in Düren is the municipal cultural center in the heart of the city. The hall, with around 800 seats, and the adjacent bistro offer two very different concert formats — from intimate club settings to large hall concerts. For the Jazz Weekend, the seating will be adapted to the respective program.
Düren, the district town in western North Rhine-Westphalia with around 92,000 inhabitants, has an astonishingly vibrant jazz scene. The Planet Jazz Club Düren e.V. has been organizing programs for decades, and Jazz We Can – Jazz Initiative Düren e.V. complements these with contemporary accents. The 2026 weekend is supported by the SWD Kulturstiftung, among others. Located in the Rur valley between Aachen and Cologne, the city is easily accessible by train or car.
The 2026 Jazz Weekend spans three evenings with three very different programs. Tickets: €25 (Fri/Sat), €30 (Sun) — Festival pass available at a reduced price for all three evenings. Supported by the SWD Kulturstiftung.
