About Michlaarer Kerwa
Michlaarer Kerwa — edition 2026
The 2026 edition continues the multi-year tradition: for five days, the Michelau fairground transforms into an Upper Franconian beer festival stage. The festival tent is open daily, and the program alternates between classic brass and party music and more modern formats like the foam party.
Highlights include the election of the Beer Prince and the festival parade on the main Kerwa Sunday. Food trucks and snack stands cater to guests throughout the day.

Kerwa Tradition in the Obermain Uplands
The Michlaarer Kerwa – in Franconian dialect for »Michelau Kirchweih« – has been the biggest summer festival in Michelau i.OFr. for generations. It traditionally falls on the first Sunday in August and lasts for several days. The focus is on the festival tent on the fairground with live music, beer service, and the whole Upper Franconian Volksfest flair.
Party Music, Kerwamusik, Foam Party
The program combines classic Kirchweih tradition with modern elements: Stimmungsmusik (party music) and Kerwamusik for those who love to dance, Beer Prince election for the very brave, an open-air foam party for the younger generation, and a beer garden for relaxed hours in the summer air. Food trucks and regional snack stands complete the culinary offerings.
Organizer ATR Michelau
The Kerwa is organized by the ATR Michelau, an association of local clubs and the market municipality. The ATR bundles efforts, finances the stage and bands, and ensures that the Kerwa takes place year after year with the help of volunteers.
Michelau in the Lichtenfels District
Michelau in Oberfranken is located on the Main river between Coburg and Lichtenfels in the Upper Franconian district of Lichtenfels. The municipality is known regionally for its basket weaving (German Basket Museum) and Franconian brewing tradition – both themes that are also reflected in the Kerwa.
