The Vorderer Westen in Kassel is one of the most vibrant city districts in the Documenta city – with old building architecture, a dense café and bar scene, small galleries, and a high proportion of students and creatives. Friedrich-Ebert-Straße forms the central axis of this district – as a promenade between Bebelplatz and Annastraße, it is one of Kassel's liveliest streets on normal weekends. During the Quartierfest, it becomes a festival mile.

1.5 Kilometers of Festival Mile

The 2026 Quartierfest takes place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, over 1.5 kilometers along Friedrich-Ebert-Straße – from Annastraße in the south to Bebelplatz in the north. The participating shops, cafés, and restaurants are open from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM. This mix of open-air festival culture and open district locations makes the Quartierfest unique in Kassel.

The program combines several elements:

Quartierfest e.V.

The organizer is the non-profit association Quartierfest e.V., which is based at Friedrich-Ebert-Straße 99 – right in the middle of the festival area. The festival is supported by a mix of local sponsors and the Kassel Cultural Office. Free admission, funded by donations and sponsorship.

For those who want to combine the Quartierfest with a day in Kassel: Directly to the north lies Bebelplatz with its art installation of the same name, and to the south, the street leads near the Henschel Museum and the Karlsaue – the large park which, even with the documenta breaks, is a must-visit in other years. In the Vorderer Westen itself, a walk through the side streets with their Wilhelminian-era architecture is worthwhile.
