Vulkan-Cross-Triathlon Schalkenmehren

The Vulkan-Cross-Triathlon Schalkenmehren combines sporting challenge with one of Germany's most spectacular natural backdrops. The Dauner Maare – Schalkenmehrener Maar, Weinfelder Maar, and Gemündener Maar – form the setting for the event, making it an experience that goes far beyond a classic triathlon.

The Three Disciplines

In the cross-triathlon format, the competition differs from a road triathlon through its off-road mountain bike and trail run courses. In Schalkenmehren, this means:

• Swimming: In the Schalkenmehrener Maar – a volcanically formed lake with clear water.
• Mountain Biking: Challenging Eifel trails through the hilly landscape around the Maare.
• Running: Through forests and along the Maar rims – with elevation gain and natural terrain.

Late Afternoon Start

The race action begins at 5:00 PM – an unusually late start time for a triathlon, lending the event a special atmosphere. The athletes compete in the warm light of the late afternoon sun and cross the finish line at dusk. This staging is one of the event's trademarks.

Marquee Maarbad as the Hub

The Marquee Maarbad at the Schalkenmehrener Maar serves as the central point for arrivals and refreshments. Starting documents are issued here from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM, the transition zone is located here, and athletes and spectators celebrate here after the race.

After-Party with Live Band

The official after-party with a live band begins at 8:30 PM. Athletes, companions, and spectators celebrate together in a relaxed Eifel atmosphere – cross-triathlon meets Eifel conviviality.

Schalkenmehren and the Vulkaneifel

Schalkenmehren is a small Eifel community located directly on the Maar of the same name in the Vulkaneifel district. Its location between the three famous Maare makes the village a tourist hotspot and an ideal venue for an outdoor sporting event of this kind.
