68th Wine Festival in Breisach am Rhein — one of the largest wine festivals in Southern Baden with the crowning of the Wine Princess
2026
About Weinfest Breisach
Weinfest Breisach — edition 2026
Program 2026
The 68th edition relies on the proven four-day format. The crowning of the Wine Princess on Friday evening is the emotional highlight of the opening — a young ambassador is officially inaugurated and will represent Breisach's viticulture for a year at national and regional trade fairs and events.
The stands of the wine producers and cooperatives present the current vintages. The focus in 2026, after several weather-favorable years, is on the 2023 and 2024 wines — Pinot Noir, Grauburgunder, Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Gewürztraminer. Sekt from Kaiserstuhl is another hallmark.

A Southern Baden Wine Festival Institution
The Weinfest Breisach is one of the largest and most traditional wine festivals in all of Southern Baden — on par with the Markgräfler Weinfest in Müllheim, the Volksfest Bad Krozingen, and the Müllheimer Markt. The 68th edition in 2026 makes this festival one of the oldest continuously celebrated wine festivals in the region. The organizer is Breisach Marketing GmbH in cooperation with local wine producers.
Kaiserstuhl and Tuniberg — The Vineyards
The wines come from the two most important wine-growing regions: The Kaiserstuhl is an extinct volcano on the Upper Rhine, with vineyards such as Achkarrer Schloßberg, Bickensohler Steinfelsen, Vogtsburger Bischoffinger Steinbuck. The soils are volcanic, and the climate is one of the warmest in Germany — consequently, the Pinot Noir, Grauburgunder, Riesling, and Weissburgunder from Kaiserstuhl are powerful and sun-ripened. The Tuniberg is the smaller neighboring hill, with similar but slightly more elegant characteristics. Both regions belong to the Baden wine-growing area — Germany's fourth-largest wine-growing region.
The Festival Format: Four Days of Wine, Culinary Delights, and Crowning
The festival runs from Friday to Monday with varying opening hours. On Friday, August 28 (6 PM–1 AM), the crowning of the Wine Princess is the ceremonial start — a young ambassador for Breisach's viticulture is inaugurated, representing Breisach's wine industry for a year. On Saturday, August 29 (2 PM–1 AM), it's the long festival day. On Sunday, August 30 (12 PM–12 AM), the festival continues as a family day with a morning pint, lunch, and family program. Monday, August 31 (2 PM–12 AM) concludes the festival.
What's Happening at the Stands
Local wineries and cooperatives present their current vintages — Pinot Noir, Grauburgunder, Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Gewürztraminer, Sekt (sparkling wine). Payment is via a voucher system. Culinary offerings include stands with Baden cuisine: Flammkuchen (tarte flambée), Vesper platters with bacon and cheese, Sauerbraten (marinated roast), Schäufele (pork shoulder), Spätzle (egg noodles), hearty stews for the evening. Live music alternates between brass bands, Schlager music, and occasional acoustic groups.
Breisach am Rhein
Breisach is a city of nearly 16,000 inhabitants directly on the Rhine, opposite the French Neuf-Brisach — the German-French double fortress was a key military area for centuries; today, the cross-border atmosphere is a cultural feature. The Stephansmünster on the Münsterberg is the city's landmark. The city is a starting point for wine tours in the Kaiserstuhl and Tuniberg regions, as well as for Rhine river cruises to Strasbourg.
