Largest Kärwa in the Fürth district – five festival days around Pentecost at the Bahnhof Mitte festival grounds
Over the past decades, the Pfingstkirchweih Wilhermsdorf has developed into one of the most attended and renowned Pentecost Kärwas in the Middle Franconian region. It is regularly referred to in the Franconian Kärwa calendars as "the largest Pfingstkirchweih in the Fürth district". The organizer is the Markt Wilhermsdorf in cooperation with the local youth groups (Ortsburschen) and local clubs.
The Pfingstkirchweih follows the classic Middle Franconian Kärwa schedule with five festival days: Pentecost Friday Festival opening with beer tapping, Pentecost Saturday Festival evening with live bands, Pentecost Sunday Festival parade of local clubs, Pentecost Monday Market day and folk festival atmosphere, Whit Tuesday Festival finale with the Kerwaboum-Austanzen (traditional dance of the Kärwa boys).
The venue is the large festival tent at the Bahnhof Mitte festival grounds, accommodating around 1,500–2,000 people. In addition, there are amusement rides, shooting galleries, carousels, and small family attractions. A special feature of the Wilhermsdorf Pfingstkirchweih is the church tower tour, where visitors can climb the Wilhermsdorf church tower and enjoy a wide view over the Middle Franconian hilly landscape. The market on Pentecost Monday extends through Wilhermsdorf's main street and is one of the largest markets in the region.
Highlights include the fireworks display on Saturday or Sunday evening (exact date varies by year) and the live bands that provide the evening atmosphere in the festival tent. The program mix includes brass music during the morning pint (Frühschoppen), Bavarian party bands, and national cover bands.
Wilhermsdorf is a market town with just over 4,700 inhabitants in the Fürth district in Middle Franconia (State of Bavaria). The market town is located in the idyllic Zenngrund west of Fürth, in the gently rolling transition to the Frankenhöhe. Wilhermsdorf has a vibrant club culture and maintains a dense calendar of traditions with the Pfingstkirchweih and the Herbstkirchweih (Autumn Fair), as well as other Kärwas in the districts of Meiersberg, Kirchfarrnbach, and Altkacherbach.
Anyone who wants to experience a Middle Franconian Kärwa with strong traditions, a folk festival character, and supra-regional appeal will find it in Wilhermsdorf at Pentecost. Unlike many smaller village Kärwas, the Wilhermsdorf Pfingstkirchweih has the dimension of a small folk festival – with the large festival tent, the market through the main street, and the fireworks display as its hallmarks.
