15 huts on the Rathausplatz – the festive heart of Nalbach
Nalbach (Saarlouis district, around 9,000 inhabitants) is one of the municipalities in Saarland that consistently cultivates its Advent traditions. The Christmas market in front of the town hall attracts visitors from the entire region every year – primarily because it is the exact opposite of large city Christmas markets: manageable, uncommercial, with a focus on club life and handmade products.
Fifteen wooden market stalls are set up on the Rathausplatz. Clubs, non-profit organizations, private individuals, and individual commercial vendors offer carved nativity scenes, handmade jewelry, wooden toys, Christmas baked goods, and candles. Food stalls serve potato pancakes, bratwurst, candied almonds, chestnuts, hot chocolate, mulled wine, and the Feuerzangenbowle popular in Nalbach.
A special feature of the municipality of Nalbach: it organizes two Advent markets on different weekends. The main market takes place on the 1st Advent weekend in front of the town hall in Nalbach, and the separate Körprich Christmas market takes place on the 3rd Sunday of Advent on Bahnhofstraße in the Körprich district – with Advent concerts, craft workshops for children, and readings. Those who want to experience the Saarlandic Advent tradition can combine both markets.
A significant charm lies in the strong connection to local clubs: the parish community, sports club, music clubs, fire department, and women's association are all represented. The proceeds remain mostly in the village and finance club activities or social causes. Thus, the Adventsmarkt is more than just a sales format – it is lived Saarlandic club life in the pre-Christmas period.
The municipality of Nalbach consists of the districts of Nalbach, Körprich, Bilsdorf, and Diefflen and is located between Saarlouis and Lebach. The region was traditionally shaped by hard coal mining – today it focuses on gentle tourism, local recreation, and a vibrant club life, which becomes particularly visible during the Advent season.
As in previous years, 15 huts will be set up on the Rathausplatz. Opening on Saturday evening, and continuously from late afternoon on Sunday. Specific times and the stage program will be published in autumn 2026 on the municipal website nalbach.de. The exact date will be confirmed by the Nalbach municipal cultural office at the time of this fiche's publication.
Specific program details will be communicated via the Nalbach municipal cultural office ([email protected]).
