49th edition at the Liebelsberger Weiher — Summer festival of the fire brigade in the northern Black Forest
Liebelsberg is one of the four districts of the mining town Neubulach in the Calw district — northern Black Forest, shortly before the transition to the Heckengäu region. The Liebelsberger Weiher, a small body of water on the outskirts, has been the venue for the Weiherfest for almost half a century, which the local fire brigade department organizes year after year. 2026 marks the 49th edition — and thus the prelude to the big anniversary in 2027.
The program is typically Swabian-traditional: catering with roast pork, sausage salad, fries, cake on Sunday afternoon, along with draft beer and non-alcoholic drinks. The firefighters volunteer their services for serving, cooking, and setup — the proceeds go back to the equipment and the youth fire brigade of the department. Seating in rows of benches under trees on the pond bank, no festival tent — the relaxed character of the festival is intentional.
On Sunday morning, a traditional morning pint (Frühschoppen) with brass music is common. In the afternoon, small activities for children (bouncy castle, games), often a fire brigade exercise as a show format — the Liebelsberg department shows what the funds are collected for. Afterwards, those who wish can take a short walk around the pond or hike further towards the mining village of Neubulach with the famous Hella-Glück-Stollen show mine.
Neubulach has just under 5,500 inhabitants and is located in the Calw district, about 35 kilometers west of Stuttgart and 25 kilometers east of Pforzheim. In the Middle Ages, the town was an important silver and cobalt mining center — the show mine in the town center is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site's "Ore Mountains/Krušnohoří Mining Region"-like profile and conveys its history. Liebelsberg, the smallest district, has preserved its village character with the pond and its summer festival — a good example of the vibrant club structure in the state of Baden-Württemberg.
