About SaarRieslingSommer
SaarRieslingSommer — edition 2026
The concept for the 2026 edition remains the same: ten participating wineries along the Saar, each open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. for visitors. Guests can decide for themselves which stations to visit – by car, bike, or train. At each station, there will be an open tasting, often accompanied by small dishes and live music in the courtyard. Invited guest winemakers from other German wine regions will complement the offerings selectively.

The Saar Wine Region at a Glance
The Saar – not to be confused with the federal state of the same name – is one of the most famous Riesling regions in the world. The vineyards on the steep slopes between Serrig, Saarburg, Wiltingen, Kanzem, and Konz are considered by sommeliers to be the "Burgundy of Riesling": here, mineral-fresh, often off-dry wines with high acidity grow, which are among the most sought-after German white wines internationally. The SaarRieslingSommer is the format with which the Saar wine-growing region opens this diversity to a broad audience.
Ten Stations, One Weekend
The concept is simple and elegant: over two days, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day, around ten Saar wineries open their courtyards simultaneously. Visitors can freely choose which stations to visit, usually traveling by car, bicycle, or on foot. Some plan a hiking day between two nearby wineries, others switch locations via shuttle. At each station, there is an open tasting, often accompanied by regional gastronomy and small cultural offerings.
Tradition and Innovation
The Saar wine-growing region has been experiencing a renaissance for several years: young winemakers are taking over historic family businesses, experimenting with natural wines, biodynamic cultivation, and alternative aging methods. At the same time, the established VDP estates (Egon Müller, Forstmeister Geltz Zilliken, Van Volxem, Peter Lauer, among others) maintain the classic style. The SaarRieslingSommer makes this contrast tangible: over a weekend, you can taste Vinothek classics and garage winemakers in direct comparison.
Host: Moselwein e.V.
The organizer is Moselwein e.V., based in Trier. The association markets the entire Mosel-Saar-Ruwer wine country and has designed the SaarRieslingSommer as a summer showcase specifically for the Saar region. Admission to the courtyards is free; payment is made per tasting at the individual stands.
Geography: The Saar River between Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate
Geographically, the Saar flows from Saarland into Rhineland-Palatinate near Saarbrücken and flows into the Moselle near Konz. Most of the wine-growing communities are now located in Rhineland-Palatinate; the Saar River itself gives the wine region its name. The region is reachable for visitors from Saarland in 30 to 60 minutes by car; arrival by train (Trier–Saarbrücken line) is possible via the stations Saarburg, Kanzem, or Konz.
