Five days of Volksfest in the Lower Bavarian Danube Valley
The Plattlinger Volksfest is one of the major early summer Volksfests in Lower Bavaria. The organizer is the city of Plattling, and the venue is the Volksfestplatz on Deggendorfer Straße. For five festival days – traditionally Wednesday to Sunday – the grounds transform into a classic Volksfest mile with a beer tent, rides, and food stalls.
The spectacular start of the Volksfest is the Festeinzug (opening parade): Over 2,500 Plattling residents march with their clubs and associations – marksmen, traditional costume groups, young men's clubs, music bands, sports clubs, the fire brigade – from the town center to the Volksfest grounds. The official opening of the Volksfest takes place with the beer tapping by the First Mayor of the City of Plattling – the famous "O'zapft is" (It's tapped!) words are as much a tradition in Plattling as they are at the Munich Oktoberfest.
The program offers changing focuses each festival day: Family afternoon on Saturday with reduced ride prices, Senior afternoon on Thursday with discounted refreshments in the festival tent, and evening events with traditional music and party bands in the festival tent. Classic Volksfest format: family atmosphere during the day, beer tent mood in the evening.
The festival tent is supplied by a Lower Bavarian brewery, and the festival kitchen offers roast chicken, pork knuckles, grilled fish on a stick, pretzels, and gingerbread hearts. Classic Volksfest fare – but in the Lower Bavarian style: hearty, simple, delicious.
Plattling, with around 13,000 inhabitants, is located in the district of Deggendorf on the Danube, at the transition between Gäuboden and the Bavarian Forest. The city is an important railway hub (ICE line Munich–Passau, connecting line Regensburg–Plattling–Eggenfelden) and home to the Nibelungen Festival Plattling in the summer. The Volksfest is part of a tradition of Lower Bavarian town Volksfests, stretching from the Straubing Gäubodenvolksfest to the Rottal region.
The 2026 edition is confirmed in the official event calendar of the City of Plattling and the District of Deggendorf portal: June 5th to 9th, 2026. The format follows the proven Lower Bavarian Volksfest dramaturgy: opening parade and beer tapping on the first day, followed by family, senior, and festival evenings with changing dance bands on subsequent days.
In the festival tent, a Lower Bavarian brewery supplies the festival beer, and the festival kitchen offers roast chicken, grilled fish on a stick, pork knuckles, and pretzels. During the day, rides and stalls attract families, while in the evening, party bands take over the festival tent. The adjacent area features high-thrill rides, classic family carousels, shooting galleries, candy stalls, and Lower Bavarian snack stands.
