On Sunday, December 13, 2026, the Handel- und Gewerbeverein Schafflund und Umgebung (HGV) invites you to the classic event on the 2nd Advent weekend around the mill ensemble — consisting of a restored water wheel, the community hall, and the Alte Mühlenscheune. At exactly 12:00 PM, Santa Claus will visit the market and distribute small gifts. An attractive tombola with an e-scooter as the main prize and prize draws at 1 PM, 2 PM, and 4 PM complement the program. Free admission.

Schafflund's Advent Classic on the 2nd Advent

Schafflund is located in the north of the Schleswig-Flensburg district, near the Danish border. With around 2,600 inhabitants, the municipality is the administrative seat of the Schafflund office and one of the centers of the North Frisian Geest region. The annual HGV-Weihnachtsmarkt Schafflund has long been a firm fixture in the region's Advent calendar — it traditionally takes place on the 2nd Sunday of Advent.

In 2026, the 2nd Sunday of Advent falls on December 13th. On this day, the mill ensemble, with its restored water wheel, the community hall, and the Alte Mühlenscheune, transforms into an Advent backdrop — a combination of historic architecture and cozy market atmosphere that gives the Schafflund market its special character.

Program around the Mill

The HGV has been organizing the market for years with a set rhythm:

  • 11:00 AM — Market opening; Bratwurst, pea soup, and mulled wine from the HGV grill
  • 12:00 PM — Visit from Santa Claus on his Geest tour with small gifts for children
  • 1:00 PM — 1st tombola prize draw
  • 2:00 PM — 2nd tombola prize draw
  • 4:00 PM — Grand prize draw with an e-scooter as the main prize
  • 5:00 PM — Market end

Specialties and Stalls

HGV members man the grill, serve punch and pea soup, or offer cakes and tarts. The homemade Quarkbällchen (quark balls) are among the bestsellers every year. In addition, local artisans and small manufacturers from Schafflund present gift items, handicrafts, and Advent decorations.

Schafflund in Northern Schleswig-Holstein

The HGV-Weihnachtsmarkt stands alongside other Northern German Advent classics that preserve the essence of rural folk festival culture — community-based, voluntary, without commercial interests in the background. Part of the tombola proceeds goes to local social projects. Schafflund is conveniently located between Flensburg and Niebüll — many guests from the surrounding North Frisian area and the Danish border region come to Schafflund for a Sunday outing.

HGV-Weihnachtsmarkt — edition 2026

The HGV-Weihnachtsmarkt Schafflund 2026 takes place on Sunday, December 13 (2nd Sunday of Advent) around the mill ensemble. Market from 11 AM to 5 PM, Santa Claus visit at 12 PM, tombola rounds at 1 PM, 2 PM, and 4 PM with an e-scooter as the main prize. Quarkbällchen, pea soup, and mulled wine from the HGV grill.

The 2026 edition sticks to the proven format of the Schafflund classic. The market opens on Sunday, December 13, from 11:00 AM and closes at 5:00 PM — precisely the classic Sunday hours that allow for a relaxed Advent visit without haste.

At exactly 12:00 PM, Santa Claus stops on his tour through the Schleswig Geest at the mill ensemble and distributes small gifts to the children. The tombola with an e-scooter as the main prize and numerous other prizes traditionally attracts many visitors — tickets are sold directly at the HGV stand, and the prize draws take place at 1 PM, 2 PM, and 4 PM.
