Kirchweih in the Schonungen District

Marktsteinach is a district of the municipality of Schonungen in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt in the state of Bavaria. The Kirchweih – called »Kerwa« or »Kirwa« in Franconia – is one of the most important festivals of the year here. It is supported by the Marktsteinach community association, an alliance of local clubs, including DJK Marktsteinach, FC, the volunteer fire brigade, the small animal breeders' association, and the association for horticulture and landscape conservation.

Three Days of Festival Tent

The Marktsteinach Kirchweih takes place over the third weekend in August and lasts for three days. The venue is the DJK sports grounds »Zum Kolben« on the outskirts of the village, where a large festival tent is erected. Admission is free on all days; in the evenings, live bands and party music ensure a lively Kirchweih atmosphere.

Franconian Delicacies

Culinary delights focus on Franconian cuisine. Classic Kirchweih specialties such as Schäuferle, Käsespätzle, Kesselfleisch, hamburgers, and other delicacies are served, along with Franconian beer. The voluntary catering by the clubs shapes the convivial, down-to-earth character of the festival.
