About Dauner Adventsleuchten

The Dauner Adventsleuchten is the traditional Christmas market of the district town of Daun in the Vulkaneifel. On the 2nd Advent weekend, Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th December 2026, around 20 festival huts will be spread across three atmospheric squares: the historic Burgberg, the grounds of the Protestant Church, and the Forum Daun. Exhibitors will offer arts and crafts, gift items, and winter specialties, while mulled wine, waffles, bratwurst, and potato pancakes will cater to culinary delights. A diverse children's program and atmospheric lighting make the Adventsleuchten one of the most beautiful Advent events in the Vulkaneifel.

The Dauner Adventsleuchten is the central Christmas market of the district town of Daun and one of the most traditional Advent markets in the Vulkaneifel. Organized by the town of Daun, the program on the 2nd Advent weekend is spread across three locations: Burgberg, Protestant Church, and Forum Daun.

Three atmospheric venues

The concept of the Dauner Adventsleuchten is based on distributing the stalls across three complementary squares:

  • Burgberg: The highest point of the old town with a view over the Liesertal valley. The quiet, slightly elevated location creates an intimate atmosphere.
  • Protestant Church: Stalls in the grounds around the Protestant Church, often focusing on arts and crafts and Advent decorations.
  • Forum Daun: A modern cultural center offering indoor areas and a covered entrance, providing additional comfort in cold or wet weather.

20 festival huts and exhibitors

Around 20 festival huts offer a diverse range of products: Advent wreaths, floristry, woodwork, ceramics, jewelry, knitwear, honey, jams, and small gift items. The focus is on regional exhibitors from the Eifel and Hunsrück regions, giving the Adventsleuchten an authentic character.

Gastronomy and mulled wine

The gastronomic offerings follow the classic Christmas market canon: mulled wine (red, white, children's punch), waffles, bratwurst, potato pancakes, crêpes, candied almonds, lard bread, and mushroom pans. Various clubs and catering businesses from the town of Daun participate in providing refreshments for visitors.

Children's program

A diverse children's program is one of the hallmarks of the Dauner Adventsleuchten: a visit from St. Nicholas with gifts, face painting, craft activities, storytelling, and musical performances. The market is thus explicitly aimed at families from the Vulkaneifel and surrounding municipalities.

Atmospheric lighting

As the name suggests – “Adventsleuchten” (Advent Lights) – the market emphasizes particularly atmospheric lighting. Fairy lights, lanterns, candles, and Advent lighting transform the Burgberg, the grounds of the Protestant Church, and the Forum forecourt into a pre-Christmas light ensemble.

Daun – Gateway to the Vulkaneifel

The district town of Daun, administrative seat of the Vulkaneifel district, is centrally located in the Eifel region and surrounded by famous maars – Gemündener, Weinfelder, and Schalkenmehrener Maar. The Adventsleuchten is the Advent counterpart to the summer Laurentiuskirmes and an important attraction for visitors from the entire district.
