Wiesenau and the Ziltendorfer Niederung

Wiesenau is a small village in the Ziltendorfer Niederung — a part of the East Brandenburg Oder floodplains, shaped by the deep valley of the Oder river. The municipality belongs to the administrative community of Brieskow-Finkenheerd in the Oder-Spree district, located between Frankfurt (Oder) to the north and Eisenhüttenstadt to the south. With the annual Zeidelkirmes, the village preserves one of the region's oldest festival traditions.

"Zeidelkirmes" — Origin of the Name

The name "Zeidel" refers to an old tradition of forest beekeeping (Zeidlerei) — in many East German villages, festival names like "Zeidelkirmes" or "Zeidlerfest" recall this medieval forest use. The combination of a church festival ("Kirmes", from "Kirchmesse") and the old beekeeping tradition gives this village festival its own historical profile.

Three Days of Kirmes with Tradition

The 2026 Kirmes runs from Friday, June 26, to Sunday, June 28. The typical three-day structure of a Brandenburg village kirmes includes: Kick-off on Friday evening with beer tapping and live music, main program on Saturday with stage performances, showmen (carousel, shooting gallery), festival beer, bratwurst, and dancing, conclusion on Sunday with a morning pint (Frühschoppen) and family day.

In the Oder-Spree District between Frankfurt and Eisenhüttenstadt

The Oder-Spree district is located on the Polish border and extends from the southern Berlin commuter belt to Eisenhüttenstadt. With the Scharmützelsee lake in the northwest and the Oder river forming the eastern border, the region is one of Brandenburg's most diverse districts. The small villages of the Ziltendorfer Niederung — Wiesenau, Brieskow-Finkenheerd, Aurith — are typical East Brandenburg floodplain villages with their own festival traditions.

Other Community Events 2026

Wiesenau hosts other festivals in 2026: the Autumn Festival on September 27 and the St. Nicholas Festival on December 6. The Zeidelkirmes, with its three-day duration, is the largest and most traditional of the village festivals.

Zeidelkirmes — edition 2026

The Zeidelkirmes Wiesenau 2026 takes place from Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28, 2026. Three days of traditional village kirmes with stage program, showmen, festival beer, and dancing in the Oder-Spree district. Organizer: Municipality of Wiesenau / Amt Brieskow-Finkenheerd.

Three Days of Village Kirmes

The 2026 edition follows the proven three-day structure. A detailed program will be published by the municipality of Wiesenau before the event — typically including beer tapping on Friday evening, stage program and showmen's operations throughout the weekend, and a morning pint (Frühschoppen) on Sunday morning.
