Medieval market in the Volkspark parallel to the Reutlingen Schwörtag — Craftsmen, falconry, fire show
The Medieval Market "Mittelalter zum Schwörtag" is one of the most spectacular medieval markets in the Reutlingen region. It is organized by Fabula Corvinus — an established provider of medieval market events — and will take place in 2026 from Friday, July 10, to Sunday, July 12, 2026, in the Volkspark Reutlingen. The market runs parallel to the Reutlingen Schwörtag celebration, which is traditionally held at the FLG on Friday — but it is organized as an independent event and not part of the city's Schwörtag festivities.
The market grounds in the Volkspark will be set up with medieval tents and camps. Craftsmen will demonstrate their skills on-site: blacksmiths at mobile forges, potters at the wheel, basket weavers, woodturners, leatherworkers, felt makers, bow makers, wax chandlers. Merchants will offer medieval goods — jewelry, fabrics, leather goods, drinking horns, mead, and medieval clothing. The exhibitors usually appear in authentic historical clothing, contributing to the dense, immersive atmosphere.
The program includes numerous show elements:
Families will find a dedicated children's program with craft stations (felting, leatherwork for children, archery with small bows), storytellers, and medieval games (mill, chess, dice games). The camp life of the exhibitors — medieval sleeping tents, open fires, daily activities in historical clothing — provides a vivid impression of how the market town community might have functioned in the Middle Ages.
The Reutlingen Schwörtag is an old tradition of the former Free Imperial City of Reutlingen — the mayor "swears" the oath of allegiance to the constitution to the citizens on the first Friday in July. The city's Schwörtag celebration takes place at the Friedrich-List-Gymnasium (FLG). The medieval market complements this civic tradition with a timely event that makes the medieval character of the Schwörtag tradition more palpable.
Reutlingen (District of Reutlingen, postal code 08415, around 116,000 inhabitants) is a major district town on the northern edge of the Swabian Jura. The historic old town with St. Mary's Church, the Tübinger Tor gate, and remnants of the city wall recalls its past as a medieval imperial city. The Volkspark — the venue for the medieval market — is located on the southern outskirts and offers ample space for the historical camp with tents, campfires, and performance areas.
From July 10 to 12, 2026, Reutlingen's Volkspark will transform into a medieval market village. Fabula Corvinus is organizing the market parallel to the city's Reutlingen Schwörtag celebration — as an independent but timely event. Craftsmen will work in mobile workshops, merchants will offer medieval goods, jugglers, swordsmen, and falconry will provide show elements.
The evening highlight: the fire show with fire jugglers and fakir acts. Families will find a dedicated children's program with craft stations, storytellers, and medieval games.
