About Reutlinger Weindorf

From August 26 to September 12, 2026, Reutlingen's city center around the Marienkirche will once again be transformed into the region's largest Weindorf (wine village) complex — the 39th edition of the Reutlinger Herbst. Seven gastronomic stalls run by Reutlingen restaurateurs and hoteliers will serve over 80 selected wines, sparkling wine, and champagne from all over Germany and neighboring countries, with each stall also serving its specialties — from Swabian cuisine to international classics. Opening on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 5 p.m. at the Weinbrunnen. Highlight on Friday, September 4: the traditional Fassrollen (barrel rolling). Reutlingers rightly call their autumn their "fifth season".

The Fifth Season at the Foot of the Achalm

There is spring, summer, autumn, winter — and then there is Reutlinger Herbst. Anyone who grew up in the city at the foot of the Achalm and the Swabian Jura will confirm: The 18 days around the Marienkirche are not just a city festival, but a season in themselves. Since 1988, the Reutlinger Weindorf has invited visitors at the end of August and beginning of September to Württemberg's largest and most atmospheric Weindorf complex. The 39th edition runs from Wednesday, August 26, to Saturday, September 12, 2026.

Seven Stalls — Over 80 Wines

Seven gastronomic stalls, operated by renowned Reutlingen restaurateurs and hoteliers, line the squares around the Marienkirche. Each stall has its own character — some focus on wines from Baden and Württemberg, others on international drops from Italy, France, Spain, Austria, or overseas. In total, there are over 80 carefully selected wines on the menus, plus sparkling wine, champagne, and selected beers. The stalls are reserved or open — for longer evenings, booking directly with the restaurateurs is recommended.

Opening at the Weinbrunnen

The official opening takes place on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 5 p.m., at the Weinbrunnen on the market square in front of the Marienkirche. The mayor, the wine princess, and a musical ensemble will open the festival with the first glass. From the first evening, the wine flows continuously — Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m., Thursdays to Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Weindorf is closed on Sundays and Mondays — the restaurateurs and their teams need these rest days.

Fassrollen — The Traditional Highlight

Anyone who wants to experience a highlight should come to the city center on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 6 p.m. for the Fassrollen: a traditional competition where wooden barrels are rolled through the streets — fast, skillful, sometimes hilariously funny. The organizers call the Fassrollen "traditional and legendary", and it is — a mix of skill game, carnival fun, and medieval market ritual.

Reutlinger Herbst — From Industrial Town to Wine Metropolis

Reutlingen (Postal Code 72764, District 08415, around 116,000 inhabitants) is not a classic wine region, but a highly productive industrial and university city at the edge of the Swabian Jura. That's precisely why the Weindorf works so well: it brings a wine culture to a city that is normally associated with mechanical engineering, the textile industry, and ambitious retail. The mix of Alemannic down-to-earthness, Swabian lifestyle, and the pomp of the festival around the Gothic Marienkirche gives the Reutlinger Herbst its own DNA — different from the Weindörfer of Heilbronn, different from the Weindörfer of Stuttgart, and above all, longer.

Reutlinger Weindorf — edition 2026

The 39th edition of the Reutlinger Weindorf runs from August 26 to September 12, 2026, around the Marienkirche in Reutlingen's city center. Seven stalls, over 80 wines, opening on August 26 at 5 p.m. at the Weinbrunnen, Fassrollen on Friday, September 4 at 6 p.m. Opening hours: Wed 5:30–11 p.m., Thu–Sat 11 a.m.–11 p.m., Closed Sun/Mon.

39th Reutlinger Weindorf — 18 Days of "Fifth Season"

Over 80 selected wines, seven stalls from respected Reutlingen restaurateurs and hoteliers, a late-summer stage around the Marienkirche: this is what the Reutlinger Herbst 2026 looks like. From Wednesday, August 26 (opening at 5 p.m. at the Weinbrunnen) to Saturday, September 12, 2026, the city center becomes a single wine meeting point every evening.

Sundays and Mondays, the stalls remain closed — this is tradition and at the same time the breathing room that makes the long festival format possible and simultaneously creates rest days for restaurateurs and regulars. Reutlingers have long called the Reutlinger Herbst their "fifth season" — and 2025 once again confirmed this honorary title.
