Allgäu Summer Festival of the Market Town Nesselwang at the Alpspitzhalle — 39th Edition 2026
The Nesselwanger Marktfest is one of those typical Allgäu summer festivals that bring the entire market community together in a single day. The venue is the Alpspitzhalle, located on the outskirts of Nesselwang with a view of the mountain massif that gives the town its name. The market town of Nesselwang organizes the festival in cooperation with local clubs — the Harmoniemusik (brass band), sports club, traditional costume association, and others.
Nesselwang is located in the Ostallgäu district (Bavaria), between Füssen and Kempten on the border with Tyrol. The market town has around 3,500 inhabitants and is known as a winter sports and hiking destination — its main mountain is the Alpspitze (1,575 m) with the cable car of the same name. During the summer months, the Marktfest complements the tourist event calendar — alongside the Almabtrieb (cattle drive), mountain services, and traditional Allgäu folk festivals.
Unlike the multi-day folk festivals in the region, the Marktfest takes place on a single Saturday in August. The typical schedule:
The Harmoniemusik Nesselwang has provided musical accompaniment for the Marktfest for decades. The brass band is deeply rooted in the Allgäu club life and plays a repertoire of classic Bavarian-Swabian brass music, entertaining pieces, and marches. The traditional beer keg tapping by the mayor is musically accompanied by the Harmoniemusik.
The Marktfest deliberately focuses on accessibility: free admission, a complimentary guest bus for overnight guests with the Allgäu-Walser-Card, and a cozy get-together in a familiar Allgäu atmosphere.
The 39th edition of the Nesselwanger Marktfest is a festive day that brings the entire market community together at the Alpspitzhalle. It begins on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
In the hall's foyer, there will be coffee and cake, while outside, the children's program with a bouncy castle and games will be running. At 4:00 PM, Mayor Pirmin Joas will perform the traditional beer tapping ceremony — accompanied musically by the Harmoniemusik Nesselwang, the local brass band.
Throughout the day, food and drinks will be available at stands around the hall: Allgäu delicacies, grilled sausages, draft beer, and non-alcoholic beverages. From 8:00 PM, the Allgäu show band Allgäuwild will take over the stage in the parking lot; in case of bad weather, the concert will move indoors.
Nesselwang is located directly on the A 7 motorway (Nesselwang exit) in the Ostallgäu region. By train from Augsburg/Memmingen via Marktoberdorf to Pfronten/Nesselwang. The Alpspitzhalle is on the outskirts of town with parking facilities nearby. Overnight guests with the Allgäu-Walser-Card can use the free guest bus.
Free admission. Food and drinks are paid for on-site.
