52nd Kreismusikfest in the Schmiechtal valley
The Kreismusikfest of the Ulm Alb/Donau Brass Music Association moves from association to association every year. In 2026, the music association MV Schmiechen e.V. is the host — a traditional local association in Schmiechen, a district of Schelklingen in the Alb-Donau district in Baden-Württemberg. From May 13th to 17th, 2026, the Schmiechtal valley will transform into a five-day festival mile with traditional costumes, a festival tent, competition performances, and a grand parade.
Five Days of Festival Tent Atmosphere
The program begins on Wednesday, May 13th, with the traditional costume party starting at 7:00 PM — opening of the festival tent with mandatory traditional attire and atmospheric brass music. On Thursday, Ascension Day, MV Schmiechen invites you to Schmiechen's Father's Day: from 10:30 AM, a morning pint with the InnkreisBuam and the Dorfmusikanten Aufheim. On Saturday, May 16th, starting at 6:00 PM, the highlight of the pre-program takes place: the Schürzenjäger, Tyrolean folk-rock legends, will perform in the festival tent — warm-up by the Ehgnerländer.
Festival Sunday with Competition Performances, Mass Choir, and Parade
On Sunday, May 17th, the actual Kreismusikfest begins at 10:30 AM with competition performances (concert and marching categories) in Schmiechen and Schelklingen. At 1:00 PM, all participating associations will gather for the mass choir — four pieces by Siegfried Rundel and Joseph Haydn will be performed together under the general conductor. At 1:30 PM, the grand parade with over 90 registered associations will start, marching through Schmiechen.
Tradition and Region
For decades, the Kreismusikfest has been the most important gathering for the brass music scene in the Alb-Donau district. It celebrates not only music but also traditional costumes, friendships between associations, and Swabian-Alemannic folk culture. The music association MV Schmiechen e.V. has existed for over seven decades and is one of the most active associations in the league.

Five-Day Festival Program
The Kreismusikfest of the Ulm Alb/Donau Brass Music Association moves to the Schmiechtal valley in 2026. From Wednesday to Sunday, MV Schmiechen offers a packed festival program with a costume party, Father's Day morning pint, Schürzenjäger concert, and a grand festival Sunday. During the competition performances, associations from the entire league compete against each other in concert and marching music. The mass choir at 1:00 PM, featuring works by Siegfried Rundel and Joseph Haydn, is one of the musical highlights of the weekend.
The event concludes with the festival parade starting at 1:30 PM: over 90 registered associations march through Schmiechen, accompanied by thousands of spectators along the route.

Getting There
Schmiechen is a district of Schelklingen in the Alb-Donau district. By train from Ulm Central Station in 25 minutes towards Sigmaringen (Schwäbische Alb-Bahn), stop Schelklingen-Schmiechen directly at the festival grounds. By car via the B 492 from Ulm or via the A 8 (exit Merklingen, then B 492).
