Regional crafts, culinary delights, and the Marble Hall in the HAG Quarter of Überseestadt
Bremen's Überseestadt, once Europe's largest inner-city harbor area, has transformed over the past two decades into one of Germany's most exciting urban development projects. In the heart of this Hanseatic transformation lies the HAG Quarter on Fabrikenufer – where the famous coffee trading company Kaffee Handels-Aktien-Gesellschaft (HAG, later Kaffee HAG) had its headquarters until 1996. Today, the quarter houses manufactories, restaurants, and creative businesses. Once a year, they open their doors for the Manufakturmeile.
The Manufakturmeile brings together regional producers. Among them are established Bremen names like the traditional roastery Lloyd Caffee (since 1930) and the artisanal ice cream duo Manke & Coldewey, alongside newer manufactories like Brotrausch (bread baking mixes) and Nusswahn (creative dried fruit mixes). They are joined by winemakers, craft brewers, pizzaiolos, ceramic artists, and fashion designers who open their workshops directly at Fabrikenufer 111–115.
A special attraction is the historic Marble Hall of the HAG Quarter, accessible to the public only a few days a year. Free guided tours – online reservation required – offer insights into the extraordinary architecture and industrial history of the site. When the stalls close at 5 PM, the open-air after-party "Heiliger Bimbam" takes over with DJs from Café Elektrik. With free admission, the day transitions into a lively night by the water.
For the youngest guests, there's a large bouncy castle and an interactive Ghostbusters experience by NoGhost Germany. A charity event – coffee for a flat rate of €1 – benefits the Bremen association Trauerland, which supports children and adolescents in grief.
After its successful premiere in 2025, the HAG Quarter at Fabrikenufer 111–115 in Bremen's Überseestadt opens its doors for the Manufakturmeile for the second time on May 9, 2026. From 10 AM to 5 PM, Bremen and North German manufactories will present their products – from coffee roasting and artisanal ice cream to bread baking, craft beer, and wine, as well as olive oil, cheese, asparagus, and berries from the farm. Between the stalls, free tours lead into the historic Marble Hall of the former Kaffee-HAG headquarters – an architectural highlight rarely accessible to the public. A charity event for the association Trauerland sells coffee at a flat rate of €1. From 5 PM, the open-air after-party Heiliger Bimbam with DJs from Café Elektrik takes over until midnight – free admission, dancing by the water included.
The 2nd Manufakturmeile takes place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the HAG QUARTER, Fabrikenufer 111–115 in Bremen's Überseestadt – followed by the Heiliger Bimbam after-party from 5:00 PM to 12:00 AM. Free admission, no registration required.
