Maritime Christmas Market in a Hut Village at Speicher XI
When the hut village is set up in the red-brick harbor district of Bremen's Überseestadt, it's HafenWiehnacht. Around St. Nicholas Day, on the first weekend of Advent, the square between the historic Speicher XI and the BLG Forum becomes North German-maritime, rustic, and cozy. The industrial backdrop of the former harbor warehouses gives the market a unique and distinctive character – a Christmas market with a special flair in the state of Bremen.
In the lovingly decorated huts, you'll find mulled wine and culinary specialties like fish dishes and bratwurst, as well as unusual, handmade products from manufacturers and traders: crocheted and knitted goods, leather goods, stationery, decorative items, jewelry, and maritime gift ideas. The market is accompanied by a stage program with music and shows. In the evening, the market turns into a hut party: dancing in the hut village with DJ music and mulled wine. For the younger guests, a children's disco with popular children's songs and photo opportunities with the Snow Queen and Snowman ensure a good mood.
The Überseestadt is one of the largest urban development projects in Europe – where the port of Bremen once pulsed, a vibrant district of living, working, and culture has emerged on the old harbor site. The listed Speicher XI, once a warehouse for cotton and tobacco, is now one of the landmarks of the quarter. The HafenWiehnacht, organized by WFB Wirtschaftsförderung Bremen together with the Überseestadt Marketing Association, builds on this maritime heritage and brings Hanseatic coziness to the old warehouse facilities.
The HafenWiehnacht attracts a diverse audience: residents of the young district, families, employees of the Überseestadt after work, and Advent strollers from all over the city. As a comparatively young market, it has quickly established a firm place in Bremen's Advent calendar – an atmospheric alternative to the large Christmas market in the old town, with industrial romance and a view of the water.
New in 2026 is a family program on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. As usual, visitors can expect a maritime-cozy hut village with food, drinks, and unusual regional products, with DJ music and mulled wine in the evenings. The organizer is WFB Wirtschaftsförderung Bremen.
