Every summer, the GEWOBA City Triathlon Bremen transforms the Europahafen in Bremen's Überseestadt into a large endurance arena. From the popular triathlon to the sprint and relay competitions to the Olympic distance, hundreds of athletes compete here – from ambitious beginners to the top class. With a swim start in the harbour basin, a cycling course through the young district, and a running route along the Weser, the City Triathlon is one of the most popular mass-participation sports events in the Hanseatic city.

The 14th GEWOBA City Triathlon Bremen will take place on August 9, 2026, around the Europahafen in Überseestadt. Five competitions are planned again: popular triathlon, sprint distance, relay, and Olympic distance, with a swim start in the harbour basin and cycling and running routes through the harbour district.

On August 9, 2026, the next edition of the City Triathlon is scheduled. The venue is again the Europahafen in Bremen's Überseestadt. From the popular triathlon to the sprint and relay to the Olympic distance, there is a format for every performance level – from beginners to ambitious top athletes. The central point of action is the head of the Europahafen with the start, finish line, and aid station.

Courses

The swim takes place in the Europahafen (one lap 500 m, sprint 750 m, Olympic 2 x 750 m). The cycling course is a flat 10 km circuit through Überseestadt, Walle, and Gröpelingen (popular and sprint distances 2 laps, Olympic 4 laps) with no drafting allowed according to DTU rules. The running course is a 2.5 km out-and-back route from the transition zone along the Weser towards Schlachte (popular and sprint distances 1 lap, Olympic 2 laps). The Bremen State Championships and the German Deaf Championships will be held as part of the event. The schedule may change at short notice – the official event page is authoritative.

Entry fees are tiered based on registration period (early birds are cheaper); an amendment to the fee structure was announced for March 16, 2026. The entry fee includes a finisher shirt. Current prices and registration via the registration portal.

Getting There

Europahafen, Überseestadt, 28217 Bremen. Easily accessible by tram and bus from the city centre. Due to road closures, travelling by public transport or bicycle is recommended.

Triathlon in the Heart of Bremen's Überseestadt

If you love endurance sports, the GEWOBA City Triathlon Bremen is a must-have date in your summer calendar. The centre of the action is the Europahafen in Überseestadt – the harbour district where one of Bremen's most vibrant new city quarters has grown from old warehouses and quayside edges. Right here, you start with the swim directly in the harbour basin, cycle your laps through the district, and run along the Weser to the finish line.

Five Competitions for Every Level

The format is deliberately broad. The popular triathlon over 0.5 kilometres of swimming, 20 kilometres of cycling, and 5 kilometres of running is the ideal introduction. Those who prefer it faster can start the sprint distance (750 metres, 20 kilometres, 5 kilometres). In addition, there is the popular relay competition for teams and the Olympic distance with 1.5 kilometres of swimming, 40 kilometres of cycling, and 10 kilometres of running. This way, you can find – alone or in a team – exactly the format that suits you.

Mass Participation Sport with Hanseatic Atmosphere

Organised by the Bremer Triathlon Verband (Bremen Triathlon Association), the event has grown significantly in recent years: in 2025, around 1,600 registered participants set a new record. The harbour basin, the historic warehouse backdrop, and the flags along the route make the City Triathlon a Volksfest (people's festival) of endurance sports, where spectators can experience the action up close in the middle of the city.

The compact course layout around the Europahafen makes it easy to cheer on your athletes at multiple points. The transition zone, swim exit, and finish area are close together – ideal conditions for a sporty summer day in Überseestadt.
