Harvest market with over 100 stalls in Bremen's Überseestadt
When autumn arrives, the area around Speicher XI in Überseestadt transforms into a huge weekly market. For over 15 years, the Herbstmarkt am Speicher XI has been a fixture in Bremen's autumn calendar, attracting tens of thousands of visitors each year. The mix of regional harvest produce, autumnal arts and crafts, and the spectacular backdrop of red brick, harbour basin, and old warehouses makes the market unique.
Around 100 market traders from Bremen, Lower Saxony, and all over Northern Germany present their products. On one side, the harvest of autumn: apples, pumpkins, root vegetables, organic products, farm-fresh cheese, homemade sausage, fresh bread, honey from regional beekeepers, jams, spices, teas, and wines. On the other side, seasonal arts and crafts: warm clothing, ceramics, leather goods, light objects, wool blankets, garden decorations. Everything that makes autumn cozy.
Speicher XI is one of the longest contiguous brick warehouses in Europe and is a listed building. It houses the University of the Arts and the Harbour Museum. The market takes place on the large open space between the warehouse and the harbour basin – a maritime industrial backdrop that clearly distinguishes it from classic city centre markets.
Admission is free. There are regular hands-on activities, small carousels, or craft workshops for children. Food trucks and snack stands provide refreshments – from classic bratwurst to crêpes, tarte flambée, and autumnal specialities. Live music accompanies the market Sunday.
Traditionally, the Herbstmarkt takes place on German Unity Day (October 3rd). In 2026, Bremen will host the central celebrations for German Unity Day – therefore, the market will be brought forward by one week and will take place on September 27, 2026. So, plan this date well in advance.
