Traditional three-day Heimat- und Wiesenfest of the Beikheim Volunteer Fire Department in the Kronach district
The Heimat- und Wiesenfest Beikheim is one of the traditional summer festivals in the Upper Franconian Kronach district. It is organized by the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Beikheim on the festival meadow on the outskirts of the village – an easily accessible, spacious area that is set up with a festival tent, catering stands, a stage, and a children's area during the Wiesenfest days.
Three festival days from Friday to Sunday or Saturday to Monday follow the classic scheme of Upper Franconian club festivals: Festival opening with beer tapping on Saturday evening, followed by festival tent atmosphere with a local band. Sunday begins with the Frühschoppen with a brass band, lunch, a family afternoon with a children's program, and a dance evening. The festival concludes on the third day with a cozy get-together.
The catering is managed by the Beikheim Volunteer Fire Department together with their helpers: Upper Franconian specialties such as Schäuferle, Bratwürste, Coburger Klöße, fränkischer Sauerbraten, accompanied by Franconian Lager beer from the many small breweries in the Kronach district – one of the most traditional brewing regions in Germany.
Schneckenlohe is a municipality with just over 1,100 inhabitants in the Kronach district in Upper Franconia (State of Bavaria). The municipality includes the districts of Schneckenlohe, Beikheim, Mödlitz, and Neubrand. Beikheim itself is a small rural district with a strong club culture – the Volunteer Fire Department, the marksmen's club, and the sports club are the pillars of village community life. Its location in the foothills of the Frankenwald – the low mountain range that separates northern Bavaria from the Thuringian Schiefergebirge – gives the region its own distinct natural character.
The term »Heimat-« (homeland) in the festival name is programmatic: The Wiesenfest is not just a club festival, but an identity festival for the village community. People returning home, relatives, and friends from the surrounding area meet again in Beikheim, shared memories are cherished, and new bonds are formed. This social function makes the Heimat- und Wiesenfest an integral part of Beikheim's annual calendar.
