Open Day of the University of the Arts in Überseestadt
The Hochschultage of the Hochschule für Künste Bremen are one of the liveliest cultural weekends in Bremen in February. In Speicher XI and Speicher XI A – the striking brick buildings of Überseestadt in the Walle district – students, lecturers, and staff open their studios, workshops, and concert halls to the public. Anyone who has ever wanted to look behind the scenes of an art university will find the ideal opportunity here.
Over 100 projects and around 14 concerts are spread across the two days. In the fields of Art and Design, you will see painting, printmaking, photography, animation, fashion, and product design. In the Music department, classical, jazz, and electronic concerts will be performed, along with workshop formats showcasing experimental music and performance. Digital Media students will present films, games, and interactive installations. If you wish, you can buy works, prints, ceramics, and other editions directly on site. Café Lu and Mensa 13 provide catering.
Parallel to the festival program, there are consultations for prospective students: guided tours of the degree programs Integrated Design, Digital Media, and Fine Arts, individual consultations in room 1.11.070, and an alumni meeting on Sunday morning. A special program item is the guided tours into the air-raid shelters in the Walle district.
HfK Bremen is the central art university of the state of Bremen and is housed in Speicher XI, a former warehouse from the early 20th century, right in the trendy Überseestadt district. The Hochschultage are one of the few opportunities during the year when the public can experience the entire building.
The 2026 Hochschultage will open the doors of the Hochschule für Künste Bremen on Saturday, February 14, from 11 AM to 8 PM, and on Sunday, February 15, from 11 AM to 6 PM. In Speicher XI and Speicher XI A, expect around 100 projects, exhibitions, performances, and installations, as well as approximately 14 concerts from the fields of classical, jazz, and electronic music. Students will present works in painting, printmaking, photography, animation, fashion, and digital media. Prospective students can participate in guided tours and individual consultations; an alumni meeting will also take place on Sunday morning. A guided tour into the air-raid shelters in the Walle district is one of the special program highlights.
