A stage in the forest, within walking distance of the train station

Anyone arriving by train in Bergen auf Rügen can reach the Waldbühne in fifteen minutes on foot: it is located in the Rugard forest on a hill northwest of the town. With around 4,500 seats and another approximately 800 standing places, it is the largest open-air stage on the island and one of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's most important concert venues – acoustically favored by the natural amphitheater formed by the surrounding beech forests, and with an atmosphere that is second to none on long summer evenings on Rügen.

Programmes ranging from Schlager to tribute and indie-pop

The Waldbühne deliberately focuses on a broad spectrum of genres: Schlager concerts with artists like Heino, Howard Carpendale, or Semino Rossi are part of the program, as are electronic acts (SCHILLER), classical crossover (Symphoniacs), indie-pop and singer-songwriters (Mark Forster), tribute shows for Rammstein (Feuerengel) and Depeche Mode (Forced to Mode), hard rock (Weimar), and cabaret and comedy evenings. This mix takes into account that the audience consists of island residents, summer tourists, and travelers from all over Germany.

The typical concert night

Concerts usually start around 8:00 PM, with admission opening about 90 minutes beforehand. Food and drinks are available on-site from several stands – from classic bratwurst to local specialties. Picnic blankets or personal chairs are generally not permitted, nor are brought beverages. For concerts with a standing area, it's advisable to arrive early, as the good spots are taken quickly. In case of rain, concerts usually take place anyway – a rain cape, not an umbrella, is the organizers' recommendation.

Where to stay

Bergen auf Rügen itself offers guesthouses, holiday apartments, and a youth hostel. If you want to combine the concert with a beach holiday, Binz, Sellin, Göhren, or Putbus are only 15 to 30 minutes away. The island is directly accessible by train from Berlin, Hamburg, or Rostock – a concert visit to the Waldbühne can easily be incorporated into a short trip to Rügen.

A broad concert season in the Rugard forest

In 2026, the Waldbühne's program spans almost five months – from the 'Dance into May' on April 30th to the season finale on September 19th.
