About Maibockfest

The Maibockfest of the Brauverein Schwabach e.V. marks the opening of the beer season in the Middle Franconian city of goldsmiths. Every year at the end of April, the brewers' association invites you to tap its self-brewed Maibock — a strong, malty spring beer brewed by hand by the association members. In the inner courtyard of the Schwabach brewery, the historic Prinz-Albrecht-Trunk and the »Goldschlägerbürschla« are also served, accompanied by Jacky's fine cuisine offering Franconian specialties. A modern Franconian brewing culture, supported by an association for the promotion and preservation of Schwabach's brewing culture.

Brauverein Schwabach — Revival of a Brewing Tradition

The Brauverein Schwabach e.V. was founded in 2020 with the mission to revive the old Schwabach brewing culture. For centuries, Schwabach (an independent city in the state of Bavaria, 09565) had a rich brewing tradition that threatened to be lost with the closure of the last breweries (most recently Leitner-Bräu). The brewers' association has set itself the task of re-brewing historical Schwabach beers — such as the Prinz-Albrecht-Trunk and the »Goldschlägerbürschla« — according to old recipes.

Maibockfest as the Season Opener

The Maibockfest at the end of April is the association's social flagship event. Here, the handcrafted Maibock (a strong, malty Bock beer style) is tapped — »strong, malty, and just right for spring«, as the association itself writes. In addition, the other association specialties, Prinz-Albrecht-Trunk and Goldschlägerbürschla, are served.

Schwabach Brewery as the Venue

The venue is the inner courtyard of the Schwabach Brewery at Nördliche Ringstrasse 12A — the association's clubhouse. The intimate atmosphere makes the Maibockfest a more personal event than the large folk festivals — more of a feel-good occasion for beer lovers and Schwabach citizens, with honest craftsmanship instead of industrial mass catering. Jacky's fine cuisine ensures upscale catering.

Schwabach — the City of Goldsmiths

Schwabach is famous for its gold leaf craftsmanship — the »Schwabacher Gold« gilds domes, Buddha statues, picture frames, and artworks worldwide. The name of the beer »Goldschlägerbürschla« directly relates to this identity. The brewers' association thus combines two Schwabach traditions — craftsmanship and brewing culture — in its product portfolio.

Maibockfest — edition 2026

The Maibockfest 2026 took place on Saturday, April 25, from 4 PM to 10 PM in the inner courtyard of the Schwabach Brewery. The Brauverein Schwabach tapped its self-brewed Maibock, and Prinz-Albrecht-Trunk and Goldschlägerbürschla were also served. Catering by Jacky's fine cuisine. Spring, beer, and good company — free and accessible to everyone.

Maibockfest 2026 — Season Opener on April 25

On Saturday, April 25, 2026, the Brauverein Schwabach invited from 4 PM to 10 PM to the annual Maibockfest in the inner courtyard of the Schwabach Brewery (Nördliche Ringstrasse 12A). The highlight was the tapping of the self-brewed Maibock — strong and malty.

In addition, the association served its other specialties: the historic Prinz-Albrecht-Trunk (a revived Schwabach beer specialty from the former Leitner-Bräu brewery) and the »Goldschlägerbürschla« — the liquid Schwabach gold. Jacky's fine cuisine provided the culinary accompaniment. Free admission, non-alcoholic drinks as well as beer available.
