Village fair on Herzogsfreudenweg in the Bonn district of Röttgen — August 28th to 30th, 2026 with flea market and Sauerbraten dinner
Bonn is a city of districts — and hardly any district is as independent as Röttgen. Nestled between the Kottenforst nature reserve to the west and the neighboring district of Ückesdorf, Röttgen has preserved a village identity that is only loosely connected to the large city of Bonn. That's precisely why the Kirmes Röttgen feels like a real village fair — and not like an urban district festival.
The 2026 edition runs from Friday, August 28th to Sunday, August 30th at the Herzogsfreudenweg festival grounds. The weekend falls in late August — the summer holidays in NRW will be over, the weather usually still warm enough for outdoor activities, but the mood in Röttgen will already be marked by the start of autumn. The Festausschuss Röttgen-Ückesdorf has officially registered the date in the city of Bonn's 2026 event calendar.
The Friday evening marks the start: From 5 PM, the festival grounds open, rides and food stalls begin operation. Typical for Bonn village fairs are classic showman offerings: a carousel, a small throwing game booth, a candy floss stand, a bratwurst stall. No giant roller coasters, no spectacular high-tech attractions — the size of the Herzogsfreudenweg festival grounds sets natural limits, and therein lies the charm.
Saturday, August 29th, is the main program day. From 11 AM, a flea market starts on the festival grounds — a welcome mix of flea market and swap atmosphere. At 11:30 AM, the traditional Sauerbraten dinner begins, a specialty of the Röttgen Kirmes. Rhenish Sauerbraten with dumplings and red cabbage, served in a festival tent atmosphere — that is the culinary identity of this fair. The festival continues in the afternoon, with the usual dance program in the evening.
Sunday is classically the family day of the Kirmes: mornings usually involve church service or a morning pint, afternoons are for family activities at the festival grounds with carousel, sweets, and bratwurst. The event concludes on Sunday evening with the last dance or a small raffle. The exact program will be published by the Festausschuss Röttgen-Ückesdorf in the weeks before the event at festausschuss-roettgen.de.
The organizer is the Festausschuss Röttgen-Ückesdorf, an association of local clubs that shapes the district's life throughout the year. The Kirmes, alongside other district events, is one of the central dates — and a meeting point for both long-time residents of Röttgen and new inhabitants from the younger residential areas on Herzogsfreudenweg.
The districts of Röttgen and Ückesdorf form the southwestern edge of Bonn, on the border with the Rhein-Sieg district. The adjacent Kottenforst is one of Bonn's largest forest areas — popular with hikers, riders, and joggers. Visitors to the Kirmes can add a hike in the Kottenforst to their program. By car via the A 565 (exit Bonn-Endenich), by bus via lines 633 or 800.
The Kirmes Röttgen 2026 is designed as a typical village fair — manageable size, clear identity, district character. The Festausschuss Röttgen-Ückesdorf has been organizing the event for years, and the program structure follows a proven rhythm: Friday opening with festival tent atmosphere, Saturday with a flea market morning and Sauerbraten lunch, Sunday with a family program.
On the Herzogsfreudenweg festival grounds, you'll find the usual showman stalls: carousel, sweets stand, snack bar, throwing game booth. The festival tent serves as a dance hall on weekends and as a dining area for the Sauerbraten on Saturday. Not a large-scale spectacle for suppliers, but a down-to-earth Bonn district fair.
Detailed program (live music acts, possibly performances by local clubs) will be published on festausschuss-roettgen.de shortly before the date.
Free admission to the festival grounds. Rides, food, drinks, and Sauerbraten dinner are subject to charge at usual fair prices. Flea market stalls can be booked with the Festausschuss for a stand fee.

Friday, August 28th from 5 PM. Saturday, August 29th from 11 AM (flea market and Sauerbraten dinner from 11:30 AM). Sunday, August 30th with family program.
Those who want to participate in the Sauerbraten dinner on Saturday morning are well advised to arrive at the festival tent early — capacity is limited, and the Sauerbraten is one of the most popular attractions of the Röttgen Kirmes. Can be combined with a Kottenforst hike for the family program.
