Traditional summer funfair on Bernhard-Berzheim-Platz in Bonn's Ippendorf district
The Ippendorfer Kirmes is a typical Rhineland neighborhood festival, found in many Bonn districts — a mix of Volksfest (popular festival), club celebration, and neighborhood gathering. The venue is Bernhard-Berzheim-Platz, the small center of Ippendorf in the south of Bonn, near the Kottenforst. From June 3rd to 5th, 2026, the funfair will bring three days of summer atmosphere to this otherwise quiet elevated district.
The organizers are Sportfreunde Ippendorf, the district's football club, in cooperation with LuPe Event GmbH. The festival is listed in the official market directory of the federal city of Bonn and was approved by the responsible district council — making it one of the recognized municipal Volksfeste in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Classic funfair attractions will be on offer: a children's carousel, a few smaller rides, a shooting gallery, a lottery stall, and a sweets stand with almonds and cotton candy. Alongside these, there will be a food area with bratwurst, fries, potato pancakes, and of course, Kölsch beer and Bonn specialties. A festival tent or a covered bar area will provide evening entertainment — Saturday evening is traditionally the busiest day.
Ippendorf is located on a plateau in the south of Bonn, above Poppelsdorf and close to the Kottenforst nature park. With around 6,000 inhabitants, it's a manageable district where club life plays an important role. Sportfreunde Ippendorf are central to the social scene, and the Kirmes (funfair) is one of the three or four main event highlights of the year — alongside the Schützenfest (marksmen's festival), Carnival parade, and various club celebrations.
Note: A second funfair edition will take place on the same square from June 12th to 14th, 2026, organized by a different showman (August Kipp). Those seeking more excitement can visit both weekends — they are similar in program and atmosphere but independent of each other.
The Ippendorfer Kirmes is small, manageable, and family-friendly. Families visiting Bonn with children will find a relaxed alternative to larger Volksfeste here — shorter waiting times, more affordable prices for rides, and the Kottenforst park right next door for a Sunday stroll before or after visiting the funfair.
The Ippendorfer Kirmes 2026 brings classic Volksfest flair to Bonn's Ippendorf district from June 3rd to 5th — with carousels, food stalls, a festival tent, and the participation of the Sportfreunde Ippendorf club.
Detailed program items and stage times will be announced via the City of Bonn and Sportfreunde Ippendorf.
