Local vintners, fishermen, clubs, and restaurateurs set up charming stalls along the streets, in courtyards, barns, and gardens, accompanied by street musicians — soloists, duos, and trios — at various locations. A Biennial Village Festival on the Eastern Shore of Lake Constance

Hagnau am Bodensee is a small wine-growing village community in the Bodenseekreis district — with around 1,500 inhabitants, located directly on the eastern shore of Lake Constance between Meersburg and Friedrichshafen. The Fish and Wine Festival takes place every two years and is one of the characteristic village festivals of Lake Constance. The focus is on the region's two signature products — Lake Constance fish and Lake Constance wine. This is complemented by a relaxed, village atmosphere that clearly stands out from commercialized large-scale events on the lake.

Charming Eateries in Streets, Courtyards, and Barns

The event concept is classic and charmingly rustic: local vintners, fishermen, clubs, and restaurateurs set up sales points distributed throughout Hagnau — along Seestraße and in the side alleys, in private courtyards, old barns, and gardens. The Hagnau Tourist Information coordinates the allocation of stalls; each eatery has its own concept, its own specialty, and its own wine on tap. Visitors stroll from stall to stall, sampling, browsing, and meeting acquaintances from neighboring communities.

Fish and Wine from Lake Constance

The fish offerings typically include grilled Felchen (whitefish), trout sandwiches, Arctic char fillet, Lake Constance pike dumplings, and rolled smoked fish. On the wine side, Hagnau vintners — the Hagnau Vintner Cooperative is one of the oldest on Lake Constance — present their Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Gris. With an understanding of the Lake Constance terroir, the wine matures here particularly aromatically due to the lake's microclimate. In the afternoon, there's also coffee and cake, regional bread varieties, honey, and jams from Hagnau production.

Street Music in the Alleys

The musical program is intentionally decentralized and relaxed: solo musicians, duos, and trios are spread across the various festival locations — no single large stage concert, but many small musical islands. Acoustic guitar, violin, piano in courtyards, accordion in squares — a soundscape that accompanies the stroll between the eateries. Added to this is the view of Lake Constance, often still summery and warm in September, the hop vines on the slopes above the lake — a Lake Constance atmosphere that can only be truly understood by visiting.
