Festival weekend celebrating the 800th anniversary of the Eddesse district
The first documented mention of Eddesse dates back to 1226. Thus, in 2026, the village looks back on eight centuries of history. During this time, Eddesse has survived wars, plague epidemics, social upheavals, and economic changes, preserving itself as a village community. The anniversary festival is an occasion to fittingly commemorate this long history and honour the achievements of many generations.
The formal highlight of the anniversary weekend is the ceremony, where representatives of politics, the church, friendly villages, and the municipality of Edemissen will extend their congratulations to Eddesse. Speeches, honours for deserving citizens, and musical contributions will characterise this festive programme item. A commemorative publication for the anniversary documents the eight centuries of village history and will be presented at the ceremony.
A grand festive parade will march through the village of Eddesse, bringing together clubs, friendly villages, music bands, and themed floats. Historical costume groups will reenact episodes from the 800-year village history, giving spectators an impression of life in Eddesse through the centuries. This historical-educational component is particularly valuable for schools and families.
The 'Zum Hahnenbusch' festival grounds provide the infrastructural basis for the festival weekend. A large marquee, a stage, catering stands, and a family area will be set up there. Throughout the festival days, catering provided by local clubs will offer a wide culinary range from bratwurst and regional specialities to drinks.
The family programme offers games for children, a bouncy castle, face painting, craft activities, and small historical hands-on events. On Saturday evening, the festival evening with live music or a DJ will be the social highlight of the weekend, where the entire village community, former Eddesse residents, and guests from the region will celebrate together.
From Friday evening to Saturday night, the Eddesse local council offers a packed programme. Historical context, festive commemoration, and lively folk festival atmosphere alternate.
A commemorative publication documents the eight centuries of village history and will be presented at the ceremony on Saturday. It will be a lasting testament to the anniversary and a valuable document for the next generation.
The detailed programme will be published by the Eddesse local council in summer 2026.
