Traditional autumn market on the Monday after the third Sunday in October along the Lauter
The Wendlinger Kirbemarkt is one of Württemberg's classic autumn market days. As in many Swabian communities, a market day coupled with the traditional Kirchweih (Kirbe) — the festival on the anniversary of the church consecration — has developed. While the religious component is less visible today, the market lives on: annually on the Monday after the third Sunday in October, Wendlingen's city center transforms into a large market street.
The market extends along Kirchheimer Straße, the central axis of Wendlingen's city center, and the adjacent streets along the Lauter — a small tributary of the Neckar that flows through the Wendlingen municipal area. The market stalls offer a wide range of consumer goods: textiles (bed linen, socks, towels, fashion), leather goods (shoes, belts, bags), household and kitchen appliances, tools, jewelry, toys, sweets, honey, dried fruits, spices. Food stands with bratwurst, Käsespätzle, roasted almonds, and crêpes provide culinary accompaniment.
Wendlingen am Neckar is a town with around 16,200 inhabitants in the Esslingen district (state of Baden-Württemberg, district 08116), located at the confluence of the Neckar and Lauter rivers between Esslingen, Plochingen, Nürtingen, and Kirchheim unter Teck. As a regional center, Wendlingen has a vibrant market tradition: in addition to the large Kirbemarkt in October, there is a weekly market (Tuesdays and Saturdays), a craft market in April, the Vinzenzifest in July, and a Christmas market in December.
On Monday, October 19, 2026 — the weekday after the third Sunday in October — the streets of Wendlingen's city center will be filled with the classic market stalls of the traditional Kirbemarkt. Starting at 8 AM, the stallholders will set up their stands along Kirchheimer Straße and in the adjacent alleys around the Lauter.
The assortment is classically market-like: all kinds of textiles, leather goods, household and kitchen appliances, tools, jewelry, toys, sweets, regional specialties. Bratwurst, Käsespätzle, and almond stands provide culinary accompaniment. A traditional, clear market atmosphere — not a Volksfest, but an honest market day with roots in the Swabian Kirchweih tradition.
