Open-air vernissage along the historic city wall — 25th anniversary edition
The Blomberger Kunstmauer has been one of Ostwestfalen-Lippe's most extraordinary art events for over two decades. On Sunday, August 2, 2026, the 25th anniversary edition will take place — a one-day open-air vernissage format that brings art directly to Blomberg's historic city wall. The organizer is Blomberg Marketing, led by Niclas Begemann-Frerk and the team of Sabine Kühne, Ute Radek, and Karin Siesenop. Chairwoman Kathrin Ridder confirms: Blomberg will "once again become the meeting point in the Lippe southeast on the first Sunday in August."
Blomberg is a small town in the district of Lippe, in the southeast of Lippe, with about 16,000 inhabitants. The historic old town with the castle hill, the castle, the Martiniturm, and remnants of the 14th-century city wall forms a unique backdrop. The city wall on the vineyard has become the perfect stage for art — it offers secure exhibition spaces, a spectacular view over the Lippe Uplands, and an interplay of stone and artwork.
The Kunstmauer is not a classic gallery opening. It is an open-air vernissage where artists present their works on or within the historic city wall — from painting to sculpture to installation. The atmosphere is informal, the artists are approachable, and contacts with collectors often arise on site.
Spread throughout the day, there are around 40 to 50 artists from Ostwestfalen-Lippe and beyond. Exhibited works include:
For the 25th anniversary edition, there will be a raffle premiere — details will be communicated via the organizer's website.
Unlike major art fairs (Art Cologne, Art Düsseldorf), the Kunstmauer has an accessible, low-threshold character. No admission fee, no hierarchy, no gallery-professional jargon. Anyone who wants to experience art directly — without Berlin-Mitte hipness or Düsseldorf glamour — will find the counter-model here: art in a historic urban space, in the heart of Lippe, on a Sunday afternoon.
The Lippe southeast is one of the quietest corners of North Rhine-Westphalia. Blomberg is located between Detmold, Höxter, and Hameln (Lower Saxony). The Kunstmauer is a perfect occasion to get to know the region — Blomberg Castle, the Hermann Monument in Detmold, and the Externsteine are all reachable within half an hour.
The 25th edition in 2026 marks a special milestone for the Kunstmauer. Blomberg becomes an art meeting point in the Lippe southeast on the first Sunday in August.
