Singer-songwriter festival in the Alte Meierei — two intimate evenings with renowned voices from the German-speaking scene
Blomberg, a town of 16,000 inhabitants in the Lippe district of East Westphalia, is at first glance not an obvious location for a singer-songwriter festival with national appeal. That's precisely what makes the Blomberg Song Festival special: it's small, focused, understated — and that's exactly why artists like Stoppok, Sarah Lesch, and Tess Wiley have performed here over the years. The atmosphere is familiar; the audience comes because they want to listen, not because they are looking for a spectacle.
The cultural venue "Alte Meierei" at Brinkstraße 22 in Blomberg is a converted commercial building from the 19th century. Today, it's a venue and cultural space with just under 200 seats, perfect for the format of a song festival: close enough that every whispered word is understandable, acoustically warm, with a bar and a small foyer for intermissions. No show works here — only honest concerts work here. That's exactly what makes the festival special.
The festival traditionally takes place on the first weekend of November, on Fridays and Saturdays. Each evening features two or three acts: usually a main act, plus support acts or double concerts. The focus is clearly on German-speaking songwriters — lyrics ranging from politics, everyday observations, love, and social criticism. English-speaking acts appear, but they are the exception.
Blomberg is located between Detmold and Bad Pyrmont in one of the hilliest regions of North Rhine-Westphalia. The town calls itself the "Tulip Town" and belongs to the Lippe Uplands, a region with its own distinct history (Principality of Lippe). Those who travel for the Song Festival often combine the visit with a weekend stay — Detmold, the Hermann Monument, and the Externsteine are within reach. The festival fits this region: culturally ambitious, without being glossy, with staying power.
The artists who shape the Blomberg Song Festival are regulars on the German-speaking songwriter scene: Stoppok, Sarah Lesch, Reinhard Mey-esque acts, sometimes younger voices like Volkwin Müller or other newcomers with literary aspirations. The program selection has established a clear reputation over the years — anyone who performs here has a name in the scene. And anyone who listens here knows it.
As every year, the Blomberg Song Festival presents its program over two evenings on the first weekend of November. Concerts at the Alte Meierei begin on Friday from the early evening, and on Saturday no later than 7 PM. Two to three acts per evening, with breaks in between and a bar in the foyer.
The 2026 program will be finalized and announced in the weeks before the festival. Regular performers at the event series, such as Stoppok, Sarah Lesch, or Tess Wiley, have shaped the festival in recent years; the program selection remains consistently text-oriented and focused on German-speaking singer-songwriters.
