Wine on Rathausplatz — the Charm of Lake Constance Viticulture
The Immenstaad Wine Festival traditionally takes place on the last weekend of August on Rathausplatz. Its central location in the town center makes the festival a meeting point for locals and summer holidaymakers—the square is framed by typical Lake Constance houses, and the historic atmosphere blends with the relaxed lake climate just a few hundred meters from the harbor. The organizer is the Immenstaad Tourist Information in cooperation with the three regional wineries.
The Three Participating Wineries
Three renowned producers of Lake Constance viticulture shape the festival:
- Weingut Röhrenbach (Immenstaad-Kippenhausen)—A family business offering Müller-Thurgau, Weißburgunder, Spätburgunder, and Lake Constance bubbles.
- Reblandhof Siebenhaller—A winery from the region focusing on typical Lake Constance grape varieties.
- Winzerverein Hagnau—The oldest winemakers' association in Baden (founded in 1881), representing the characteristic Hagnau Spätburgunder.
Additionally, there are gastronomic stands offering regional specialties—from whitefish rolls and tarte flambée to Lake Constance apple specialties.
The Opening with the Wine Princess
The festival is traditionally opened on Friday evening by the mayor with a keg tapping ceremony. The highlight of the opening is the appearance of the reigning Lake Constance Wine Princess—she embodies Lake Constance viticulture as an ambassador and guides through the opening evening. Starting at 7 p.m., the live program begins with the brass band Zeebrass, creating a relaxed, lively Lake Constance atmosphere.
Immenstaad — A Lake Constance Community with a Winegrowing Tradition
Immenstaad am Bodensee (Bodenseekreis district, AGS 08435) is a municipality of around 6,200 inhabitants on the northern shore of Lake Constance, located between Friedrichshafen and Meersburg. The region belongs to the Lake Constance winegrowing area—one of Germany's smallest and northernmost cultivation areas. The mild climatic influence of the lake, the reflection of the water, and the slopes on the lake's shore contribute to distinctive, cool-fruity wines that can be tasted directly from the producers at the festival weekend.
