About Klassik Open Air

The Klassik Open Air Nürnberg is one of the largest classical open-air concerts on the European continent. In the expansive Luitpoldhain, the Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg and the Nürnberger Symphoniker play major symphonic programs on two summer evenings – with free admission and in front of a huge picnic crowd. Since 2000, around 120,000 visitors per year have experienced the city's two major orchestras at the »Picknick im Park« (Picnic in the Park). Spread out your blanket, unpack your picnic basket, and enjoy classical music under the open sky – this is the hallmark of this Nuremberg summer highlight.

Classical Music Under the Open Sky

The Klassik Open Air Nürnberg is one of the largest events of its kind in Europe. For two evenings in the summer, the Luitpoldhain, a vast park landscape in the Nuremberg city district, transforms into a massive open-air stage. Tens of thousands of people spread out their picnic blankets and listen to great symphonic works – for free and in a relaxed atmosphere.

Two Orchestras, Two Evenings

The festival is supported by the city's two major ensembles: the Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg (orchestra of the Staatstheater Nürnberg) and the Nürnberger Symphoniker. Each orchestra curates its own evening with a thematically framed program, complemented by a family concert in the afternoon.

Picnic in the Park

The »Picknick im Park« has become a trademark: families, groups of friends, and classical music fans spend the evening on the lawn with their own provisions, while the music echoes through the Luitpoldhain. The event traditionally concludes with a fireworks display. Since the year 2000, the event has attracted around 120,000 visitors annually.

Nuremberg and the Luitpoldhain

The independent city of Nuremberg, the largest city in Franconia within the administrative region of Middle Franconia, is a significant cultural metropolis in Bavaria. The Luitpoldhain, originally designed as a park, offers the ideal natural backdrop for a classical experience of this magnitude.
