Fischfest Gaisbach — 45 Years of Fire Brigade Tradition
On July 11th and 12th, 2026, the 45th Fischfest (Fish Festival) of the Volunteer Fire Brigade Künzelsau, Gaisbach department, will take place. The venue is the Gaisbach Fire Station at Unterhofer Straße 7 — a typical village center in the Hohenlohe region. For over four decades, the Fischfest has been one of the most important community events in the Gaisbach district of Künzelsau.
The Specialty — Freshly Smoked Trout
The festival owes its name to its culinary centerpiece: freshly smoked and fried trout. The firefighters smoke the trout on-site in a traditional smokehouse — the aroma spreads throughout the village and is the unmistakable hallmark of the festival. Alternatively, trout is also served fried. It is accompanied by homemade fried potatoes, salads, and fresh bread.

Volunteer Fire Brigade as Organizer
The Volunteer Fire Brigade Künzelsau, Gaisbach department, is the organizer and main sponsor of the festival. Like many village festivals in rural southern Germany, the event serves both as a community experience and for club financing — the proceeds contribute to the fire brigade's equipment. The Youth Fire Brigade is represented with its own activities and demonstrates the appeal of firefighting to the younger generation with its water games program.
Gaisbach and Künzelsau in the Hohenlohe Region
Gaisbach is a district of the town of Künzelsau in the Hohenlohe district in northeastern Baden-Württemberg. With around 1,300 inhabitants, Gaisbach has retained its village character — an important prerequisite for its intact club culture. Künzelsau itself (around 15,000 inhabitants) is the district capital of Hohenlohe and the headquarters of the Würth Group; the Hohenlohe region — the hilly landscape between the Jagst, Kocher, and Tauber rivers — is known for its wine and fruit-growing tradition.
