Asparagus Capital in the Wittelsbacher Land
Schrobenhausen, a small district town in the Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district, is known far beyond Bavaria for its asparagus. The protected regional food product "Schrobenhausener Spargel" is grown in the sandy soils between the Danube and Paar rivers and is considered by connoisseurs to be one of Germany's finest high-quality vegetables. With the Spargel- und Genussfest (Asparagus and Delicacies Festival), the town honours its favourite high-quality vegetable on the last Saturday of April on the market square — Lenbachplatz, named after the town's most famous son, the painter Franz von Lenbach.
A Feast Day Full of Delights
From 11:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Lenbachplatz transforms into an open stage and a gourmet mile. Stalls offer asparagus specialities in all variations: classic with Hollandaise sauce, in soups, as salads, with Franconian Schäuferla combinations, vegetarian, and vegan. Local products are also available — beer, wine, ham, sweets — complementing the picture of a complete regional delicacies festival.

Asparagus Culinary Meets Lifestyle
The Asparagus and Delicacies Festival is more than a culinary event — it is the annual confirmation that the Wittelsbacher Land, with its asparagus tradition, is firmly established on Bavaria's culinary map. Those who take advantage of the date often combine it with a visit to the European Asparagus Museum or a trip to the asparagus fields around the town.
