Traditional Kirchweih in the city center with rides, live music, and club catering
The Kerb holds a special significance in the Westrich plateau. Unlike in the more densely populated wine-growing regions along the Rhine and Moselle, here it is not only a folk festival but also a central identity marker of a community where tradition and garrison history have been intertwined over generations. The Kerb Baumholder takes place in September in the city center and uses classic fairground areas around the downtown area.
The program follows the Westphalian-Westricher schema. Thursday or Friday opens with the Kerwe tree being set up by the Kerwe youth and the first dance night. Saturday is the big event day with a concert on the main stage and festival tent operations until the early morning hours. Sunday is dedicated to families: children's afternoon, performances by local clubs, possibly a festival parade. Monday traditionally marks the Kerwekehraus with the burial or burning of the Kerwe straw doll, live music, and the winding down of the festival tent. Rides such as bumper cars, carousels, and candy and snack stands provide a classic folk festival atmosphere.
Catering is traditionally in the hands of local clubs. Fire departments, sports clubs, and the Kerwe youth set up bratwurst and drink stands, ensuring that the value creation stays within the city. Admission is free. Those arriving by car will find several free parking spaces in the city center.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the city of Baumholder in the summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years: Kerwe tree setup on Friday, festival parade or reception on Saturday, family program on Sunday, burial of the Kerwe and Kehraus on Monday. Live music alternates with DJ sets, and catering is provided by local clubs at bratwurst and drink stands.
