Cinema from the north in Lübeck's old town

The Nordic Film Days Lübeck run from November 4 to 8 and are the only film festival in Germany and Europe devoted exclusively to cinema from Scandinavia, the Baltic states and the northern regions of northern and central Europe.

It was founded in 1956 and has been run by the Hanseatic city of Lübeck since 1971.

Feature films, documentaries, short films and children's films play at the CineStar, at the KommunalKino KoKi and at the Theaterfigurensammlung KOLK 17. All venues are ten to fifteen minutes on foot from the main station.

The NDR Film Prize is one of eleven awards with total prize money of around 67,500 euros. There are competitions for feature films, documentaries and children's and youth films, plus a short and experimental film programme and a retrospective.

More than 500 filmmakers travel to Lübeck every year, Q&A sessions, mostly in English, follow the screenings, and many shows sell out. Films run in the original language with English subtitles, some with German subtitles as well. Single tickets cost about 9 euros, with reduced prices for students and pupils.

Encounters in Flensburg, pictures in Niebüll

On 7.11.26 the Intercultural Weeks Flensburg are still under way, and on Sunday, November 8, they end.

For more than 17 years, concerts, readings, theatre, discussions, workshops and the Day of Open Mosques have filled the programme in Germany's northernmost large city. The series is organised by the Intercultural Weeks working group together with the city of Flensburg's integration commissioner, and most events are free of charge.

At the Richard Haizmann Museum in Niebüll, Jörg Bernkopf shows “Der Fluss der Dinge” from October 10 to December 6, and Johann Büsen exhibits “Lucid Dreams” from October 24 to November 22, organised through the Kunstverein Niebüll.

The museum bears the name of the Niebüll sculptor Richard Haizmann (1895 to 1963) and is devoted to contemporary art in North Frisia.
