Feuerspuren in Gröpelingen
On Sunday the Feuerspuren International Storytelling Festival turns Lindenhofstraße, the central axis of the Bremen district of Gröpelingen, into a stage. The storytellers perform at more than twenty venues, in the barbershop and on a farm as much as in a mosque, and around 7,000 visitors come to western Bremen every year.
Stories are told in Spanish, Turkish, Bulgarian, Dutch, Flemish, English, Breton, Romanian and Kurdish. Gröpelingen was shaped by shipbuilding for decades and is now one of the most international districts of Bremen. The festival is run by the association Kultur Vor Ort e.V. together with the Bürgerhaus Oslebshausen.
On Saturday evening, 7 November, the Long Night of Storytelling begins at the Bürgerhaus Oslebshausen. It is aimed at an older audience and has its own admission.
On Sunday evening the Feuerspuren procession winds through Gröpelingen with lanterns and a samba band and ends with the closing show on the Bibliotheksplatz. Tram lines 2 and 10 stop at Gröpelingen.
Heavy metal in the old town, lights on the Weser
The Bremer Metal Festival brings its second evening on Saturday, 7 November, to the Bluesclub Meisenfrei in the old town, where the Local Radio team has put German and European metal and hard rock bands on stage since 2010, many of them from the region. The club holds around 300 guests at most.
In Bremerhaven the Laternenfest & Lichtermeer starts on Sunday, and from about 12 noon to 5 pm the city centre offers lantern making, face painting and a family programme, plus Sunday shopping. A craft mile stands on the square in front of the Klimahaus.
Around 5.30 pm the stage programme starts in the Havenwelten with a host, a marching band and a glowing samba band, and at 6 pm the lantern procession sets off, past the Zoo am Meer to the lighthouse on Willy-Brandt-Platz and back over the dyke. As Bremen Vier Lichtermeer it belongs to a statewide campaign.
Entry is free, and lanterns can be made on site or brought along.
