Zoigl at the Foot of the Castle
The market town of Falkenberg in the northern Upper Palatinate, known for its distinctive Falkenberg Castle, is one of the five "capitals" of Zoigl brewing, alongside Windischeschenbach/Neuhaus, Eslarn, and Mitterteich. Located in the Tirschenreuth district, the town maintains a centuries-old brewing tradition that is part of everyday life here.
Communal Brewing and the Zoigl Star
Zoigl is brewed in the Kommunbrauhaus: a communal brewery where the communal brewers produce their wort using traditional methods, ferment it at home, and serve the finished beer in their own Zoigl tavern. The displayed six-pointed Zoigl star indicates which tavern is currently open. The brand "Echter Zoigl vom Kommunbrauer" stands for originality and quality.
Kramer Wolf and Hafnerkarl

Both taverns follow a rotating calendar, which can be viewed on zoiglbier.de and the official Zoigl calendar.
Intangible Cultural Heritage
Upper Palatinate Zoigl culture has been recognised as intangible cultural heritage under the UNESCO Convention since 2018. Visiting a Zoigl tavern in Falkenberg combines hearty conviviality, delicious snacks, and the unique atmosphere of a historic market town with a castle – an authentic piece of the Upper Palatinate Forest.
