What is Zoigl?

Zoigl is a specific Upper Palatinate beer tradition from the Stiftland and northern Upper Palatinate. In the Zoigl towns, private Zoigl brewers brew their own uncarbonated beer according to old law in a communal brewery, which is then alternately served in the Zoiglstuben (guest rooms) of the participating families. A hanging six-pointed star – the »Zoiglstern« – signals that a family is currently serving. Zoigl is part of the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage of the Upper Palatinate and is maintained in places like Windischeschenbach, Neuhaus, Falkenberg, Mitterteich, and in the surrounding area of the Neusorg administrative community.

Club Festival with Regional Identity

SV Riglasreuth is the sports club of the village Riglasreuth, a district of the municipality of Neusorg in the northern district of Tirschenreuth. With the Zoiglfest, the club keeps a regionally anchored tradition alive and at the same time uses it as a social platform for the village community. The festival takes place at the Riglasreuth sports center starting at 5 PM — the date and format clearly appeal locally: club members, neighbors, friends, a relaxed May evening with Zoigl, sausage, and snacks.

Sports Club with Festival Culture

SV Riglasreuth doesn't just host the Zoiglfest. The club's activities throughout the year include numerous events: the Sports and Family Festival in July, the Sports Center Kirwa (church fair) in October, a Fishing Festival in June, and the traditional Midsummer Bonfire in June. This makes the club one of the central pillars of village festival culture in Riglasreuth.

Neusorg and the Stiftland Hinterland

Neusorg is located between the Steinwald forest and the Fichtelgebirge Nature Park, in the district of Tirschenreuth — a quiet, rural region in northeastern Bavaria with traditional festivals and a strong club landscape. Visitors to the Zoiglfest immerse themselves in an authentic Upper Palatinate village life that is not yet overrun by tourism.
