15 cross-country runs in ten months – the largest running series in East Thuringia
The Geraer Laufcup has existed since the 1990s and is one of the most densely packed public running series in Germany. The 32nd edition in 2026 continues the proven concept: 15 individual races are spread from January to October across the city of Gera and its surroundings.
The races take place on varied routes: Stadtwald, Hofwiesenpark, Leinawald and routes in surrounding communities. Each route has its own character – from the asphalted city park circuit to cross-country runs through forest and meadow. The seven best results of each runner in their respective age groups are counted.
With around 92,000 inhabitants, Gera is the third-largest city in Thuringia and an independent city in the east of the state. The city boasts three running hotspots – Stadtwald, Hofwiesenpark, and Leinawald – which shape the cityscape and its sporting identity.
As in previous years, the 2026 Cup offers a program that appeals to both beginners and ambitious hobby athletes. Even though not all dates are fixed in advance, the season highlights are already set.
Every runner can participate in all 15 races. The seven best individual results count towards the ranking.
Registration via the respective organizer's website for individual races. Entry fees per race, overall ranking is free after participating in at least seven races.
Gera is easily accessible via the A 4 and A 9 motorways. Gera main station has connections to IC lines.
