Three-day village anniversary celebrating the 680-year history of the Sonnewalde district
Dubro was first mentioned in a document in 1346 – and is therefore celebrating a remarkable 680th anniversary in 2026. The district is now part of the town of Sonnewalde in the Elbe-Elster district in southern Niederlausitz. With its few hundred inhabitants, Dubro is one of Brandenburg's typical rural villages – and it is precisely for this reason that the village anniversary is an event of great identity-building significance.
From Friday, June 5th to Sunday, June 7th, 2026, the village will fill its central squares and meadows with a packed festival program. The exact program details will be announced at short notice by the Dubro local council and the town of Sonnewalde. Experience has shown that the festival weekend follows a proven structure:
Opening with a welcome address by the mayor and local representative, live music with regional bands, a communal dinner, and dancing on the festival meadow.
A parade through the village featuring clubs, showmen, music bands, and historical costumes. Afterwards, a Volksfest (traditional folk festival) on the fairground with showmen, food stalls, a stage program, and an evening of dancing. A highlight of many village anniversaries is an evening fireworks display.
A family church service, a morning pint (Frühschoppen), children's activities, and a relaxed conclusion to the festival with coffee and cake.
The Dorffest Dubro is officially included in the event calendar of the town of Sonnewalde – a sign of municipal sponsorship and official recognition as an important event in 2026. The voluntary preparations are carried out over months by clubs, the fire department, the church community, and residents.
By visiting the Dubro village festival, you will experience a typical Niederlausitz Volksfest in its rural, authentic form. The Elbe-Elster region is characterized by a rich tradition of village celebrations, harvest parades, and local festivals – and Dubro, with its 680th anniversary, joins a long tradition.
Three days of festivities celebrating the 680th anniversary of Dubro, a district of Sonnewalde. The festival calendar follows the proven structure of rural Brandenburg village anniversaries: Friday evening opening with live music and dancing, Saturday parade through the village with clubs and showmen, followed by an evening Volksfest, and Sunday a family church service and a cozy conclusion. The detailed program will be published by the Dubro local council and the town of Sonnewalde in spring 2026. The festival is registered in the town's official event calendar and is supported by the voluntary efforts of clubs, the fire department, the church community, and residents.
