Traditional Pentecost festival in the Lamspringe district of Woltershausen with dancing and conviviality
Pentecost is a central festival date in many villages in Lower Saxony. The tradition of Pfingstbiere and Pentecost festivals dates back a long way and is part of a festive culture that combines the spiritual high holiday with communal gathering, dancing, beer, and shared meals. In Woltershausen, a district of the municipality of Lamspringe in the southern Hildesheim district, this tradition has also survived and is brought to life anew each year.
Woltershausen is a manageable district of the municipality of Lamspringe with a classic village structure, active club life, and close social networking. Such small village structures are still alive in the southern Hildesheim district and shape the self-understanding of the communities, which consist of several districts.
The Pfingstbier traditionally takes place on the Pentecost weekend – a time when many people are on holiday and the rural community has time for extended celebrations. The exact program varies from year to year and is organized by the local village community, the fire department, the shooting club, or a festival committee.
As with most North German village Pentecost festivals, the program includes: Opening on Pentecost Saturday with a dance evening, convivial gathering and communal meal on Pentecost Sunday, Frühschoppen or family program on Pentecost Monday (if the festival lasts until Monday). Beer, soft drinks, regional specialties, and musical accompaniment are included. Sometimes additional elements are incorporated, such as competitions, games, or a small parade through the village.
The Pfingstbier is a festival of the village community, not a tourist magnet. Visitors from neighboring villages or the region's cities experience an authentic, familiar atmosphere that is typical of Lower Saxony's rural festival culture and is becoming increasingly rare in many places. This is precisely why such festivals hold a special appeal for visitors who want to get to know a different side of the country than that of the large shooting and folk festivals.
As in previous years, the festival is organized on a voluntary basis. The exact program will be announced in spring 2026 on the website of the municipality of Lamspringe and in local notices.
The festival follows the classic cornerstones of North German Pentecost festivals: dance evening, communal meal, Frühschoppen, convivial gathering.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
