Three-day village anniversary celebrating the 650th anniversary of Grassau, a district of the town Sonnewalde
Grassau is a district of the town Sonnewalde in the Elbe-Elster district, in southern Niederlausitz. The first documented mention dates back 650 years — in 2026, the anniversary will be celebrated with a three-day village festival.
The festival runs from Friday, July 3rd, to Sunday, July 5th, 2026. It is listed in the official event calendar 2026 of the town Sonnewalde and is one of the largest anniversary festivals in Elbe-Elster this year.
For a village of a few hundred inhabitants, a 650-year anniversary is an exceptional moment. The districts of Sonnewalde carefully maintain their identity — the anniversary brings together former residents, relatives from the diaspora, and guests from the entire district.
The organizers are the Town of Sonnewalde and the Grassau Local Council. The program will be published in detail on stadt-sonnewalde.de in the weeks leading up to the anniversary.
