Summery open-air concerts on an old fruit meadow
On the Nordstrand peninsula, in the middle of the North Frisian Wadden Sea, lies the Vogelkoje — a historic duck-catching facility from the 18th century, now a nature reserve. Right next to it is an old fruit meadow with old apple tree varieties. It is precisely here, under the crowns of the apple trees, that the Unnern Appelboom concert series takes place every summer — one of Schleswig-Holstein's most charming summer cultural formats.
The series runs from June 22 to August 24, 2026, every Monday from 7:00 PM. Artists from Schleswig-Holstein and across Germany perform — the styles range from rock and pop to jazz and folk to singer-songwriter programs. Confirmed performances in 2026 include: Kerstin Bogensee (June 30), Speellüüd (July 27, Low German Folk), Klaus Porath (August 10, Singer-Songwriter), Black'n'Blond (August 24, North German Acoustic Quartet). More acts will be added during the season.
The Hamburg band Black'n'Blond has been a regular fixture for a decade. Their songs, described as "loud and quiet, wild and cozy," combine North German laconicism with warm songwriting. The performances at the end of the series (August 24, 2026) are traditionally sold out.
The pricing structure is fair and tiered: Day guests pay €12, locals and guests with a spa card pay €10, children between 6 and 17 years pay €5. Children under 6 are free. Tickets are available at the Nordstrand Tourist Information or directly at the box office on site. The event is organized by Nordstrand Tourism and supported by Nord-Ostsee-Sparkasse (Nospa).
Nordstrand was once part of the larger island of Strand, which was largely destroyed in the Great Man Flood of 1634. Today, the peninsula is connected to the mainland by a causeway and belongs to the district of Nordfriesland. The island has around 2,200 inhabitants and is known for its mudflat hikes, birdwatching, and Frisian thatched-roof houses. The Unnern Appelboom concert series fits this calm character — it is large enough to host sophisticated artists and small enough to guarantee an intimate atmosphere.
From June 22 to August 24, 2026, the old fruit meadow at the Vogelkoje will once again transform into an open-air stage. Every Monday from 7:00 PM, artists will perform under the apple trees — a concert atmosphere unique to North Frisia. The organizer is Nordstrand Tourism.
Further acts in the series will be announced on nordstrand.de and at the Tourist Information.
