About 1. Mai Hocketse Serres
1. Mai Hocketse Serres — edition 2026
On Friday, May 1, 2026, the Serres volunteer fire brigade will traditionally open the community center for the May Day Hocketse. Bratwurst and steaks sizzle on the charcoal grill, fresh draft beer flows from the tap, and in the afternoon, coffee and homemade cake are offered. At long beer tables under the linden trees, villagers and guests from the surrounding districts of Enzkreis meet for a relaxed May Day celebration at the community center. The proceeds benefit the work of the fire brigade and its youth work.

Tradition on May Day
The 1. Mai Hocketse in Serres is one of the oldest and most popular club festivals in the municipality of Wiernsheim (Enzkreis district, state of Baden-Württemberg). The organizer is the Serres Volunteer Fire Brigade – the Florian Juniors of the small district, who open the Serres community center every year on Labour Day for the village community. A classic Swabian Hocketse, as it is still celebrated in many villages in the Kraichgau and Vorderpfalz regions today.
Hocketse — a Swabian invention
The term "Hocketse" is omnipresent in the Württemberg dialect. Literally translated, it means something like "seat" or "convivial gathering where people sit" – meaning sitting comfortably at beer tables, talking, eating, and drinking together. A Hocketse has nothing to do with a perfectly styled city festival: here, it's not about size, but about honest, voluntary conviviality.

A festival for a good cause
There's more to the Hocketse than just a social day: the proceeds finance essential parts of the work of the Serres Volunteer Fire Brigade – from equipping the youth fire brigade and small purchases for the community center to training courses for the active brigade. Those who visit the Hocketse directly support the voluntary fire protection work in the village.
Serres and Wiernsheim
The district of Serres is located in the Enzkreis district between Mühlacker and Vaihingen an der Enz, nestled in the gently rolling Kraichgau landscape with its vineyards, scattered orchards, and small forests. The total municipality of Wiernsheim includes the districts of Iptingen, Pinache, and Wiernsheim itself, in addition to Serres. Characteristic of the region: many small village festivals that shape club life and preserve the rural flair of the region.
